GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES HOUSING EXTENSION FOR SANDY VICTIMS

Transitional Sheltering Assistance Program Extended in NY for an Additional 28 Days

 

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), at the request of the State of New York, has approved a 28-day extension to the Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) program beginning on May 1st, which was the deadline for the last extension granted earlier in April. This new extension allows eligible survivors from Superstorm Sandy who cannot return to their homes to stay in participating hotels or motels.

 

The new checkout date for those in the TSA program is May 29, 2013. FEMA will call applicants eligible for the extension to notify them of the new checkout date.

SENATE PASSES PUBLIC SAFETY LEGISLATION

Bills Come On The Heels of Boston Bombings & Foiled Terrorist Train Attack

 

 

With renewed calls for vigilance and increased public safety following the tragic bombings in Boston and the foiling of a terrorist plot to attack a train traveling across the state between New York and Toronto, the New York State Senate today passed a package of anti-crime legislation including a bill that would require convicted terrorists to serve their full prison sentence.

HURRICANE SANDY VOLUNTEERS AMONG THOSE TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

Brooklyn- During National Volunteer Week, community residents who have proven to be extraordinary in their volunteerism, dedicated to helping during Hurricane Sandy, special events and community organizations, will be honored at the 2013 Volunteer Appreciation Night hosted by Senator Marty Golden on Thursday April 25, 2013 starting at 6:00 p.m. at Buckley’s Restaurant, 2926 Avenue S, Brooklyn.

 

More than 50 volunteers will be honored with New York State Senate Certificates for their efforts. Many of the volunteers have both helped with Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts and supported community events.

 

Members of the media are welcome to attend.

STATEMENT BY SENATOR GOLDEN ON ARREST IN FAKE BOMB SCARE IN BROOKLYN

Brooklyn – State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) has just learned from officials with the New York City Police Department, that an arrest has been made in the early Wednesday morning fake bomb scare found on the doorstep of a retired Bay Ridge resident:

 

“I have just been informed that an arrest has been made of an individual in the Bay Ridge bomb scare that took place Tuesday night on 68th Street. I commend the 68th Precinct, Commanding Officer Captain DiBlasio, and all the NYPD Detectives assigned to this case, for their work, in making sure that this individual is no longer roaming our streets, causing havoc and wasting police resources.

School Zones

When it comes to pedestrian safety, and specifically the safety of our children, the focus must be on traffic calming methods that result in an increased level of safety. Logically, curbing speed in the immediate area surrounding schools is the most effective.

 

New York City schools are vast and numerous. In South Brooklyn alone, they are located on both major thoroughfares, like 4th Avenue, New Utrecht Avenue, and Bay Ridge Parkway, as well as less traveled streets, like 85th Street, Ridge Boulevard, and Benson Avenue. With thousands of students coming and going each day, we must look at concise and appropriate measures to curb speeding that may take place around schools.

Brooklyn – Yesterday's event, billed as “Operation Seniors”, which offered prom season assistance for high school seniors affected by Super Storm Sandy, was a huge success, with over 60 students walking away with a prom dress, shoes, pocket books,. makeup and jewelry accessories. SENATOR GOLDEN SIGNS ON AS CO-SPONSOR TO LEGISLATION PROTECTING YOUR CHILDREN’S RIGHT TO PRIVACY

Joins his colleagues and Community Education Council 20 in calling for a ban on releasing student information without parental consent.

 

Brooklyn, NY – New York State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I) yesterday signed on as a cosponsor to S4284, which prohibits the release of personal identifiable information of students without parental consent for those students under 18, or without direct consent for those students over 18.

GOVERNOR CUOMO DIRECTS FLAGS TO HALF-STAFF

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in honor of the victims of the marathon bombing in Boston, MA.

"I join with my fellow New Yorkers and Americans in mourning the loss of the innocent lives that were taken in yesterday’s terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon,” Governor Cuomo said. “I extend my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the victims, as well as the residents of Boston.”
