SENATOR GOLDEN PARTNERS WITH AMERICAN ITALIAN CANCER FOUNDATION TO PROVIDE NO COST MAMMOGRAM SCREENINGS

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is announcing free mammography screenings events, in conjunction with the American Italian Cancer Foundation, offered aboard a mobile care clinic that will park outside both of his district offices.

The events are scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2015, at his Bay Ridge office, located at 7408 5th Avenue in Brooklyn, and for Friday, June 12, 2015, outside his Marine Park office located at 3604 Quentin Road in Brooklyn.

No cost mammograms will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both dates. An appointment must be made by calling 1-877-628-9090. Women interested in appointments must be over 40 years of age and have not had a mammogram in the past year.

LYMPHATIC EDUCATION & RESEARCH NETWORK ANNOUNCES RECEIPT OF NY STATE GRANT

New York, NY – Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) announced today that it would receive two grants totaling $200,000 as part of the New York State FY2015 budget. The New York State Senate and Assembly each awarded $100,000. State Senator Martin Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) and State Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal (D-WF, Manhattan) sponsored the funding requests in their respective chambers. Funds will support the growth of LE&RN's National Lymphatic Disease Patient Registry and Tissue Bank.

SENATOR GOLDEN TO HOST FREE SHREDDING EVENTS TO HELP YOU PROTECT AGAINST IDENTITY THEFT

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), today is announcing that he will host two free shredding events, at both of his district offices during the month of April, to assist residents in protecting themselves against identity theft.

The shredding truck will be parked outside Senator Golden’s office at 7408 5th Avenue on Saturday, April 25th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and will be outside his satellite office located at 3604 Quentin Road the following day, Sunday, April 26th, also from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Residents are invited to bring as many personal documents as they wish to shred.

SEPTEMBER DECLARED KINSHIP CARE MONTH IN NEW YORK STATE

Legislators in the Senate unanimously passed a resolution earlier this year declaring September 2015 as Kinship Care Month, and members of the Assembly are set to vote on the same resolution today.

Kinship care refers to the more than 200,000 families in New York State who are relatives raising the children of other family members. Children who enter into the care of relatives often do so for the same reasons they might enter into foster care, because their parents are unable or unfit to care for them. Though the challenges are similar for kinship families compared to foster families, only about 5% of kinship caregivers receive the support and financial benefits that come with being in the foster care system.
