SENATOR GOLDEN TO HOST YOGA CLASSES IN MARINE PARK

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), today is announcing that he will be partnering with Yoga Instructor Cathy Shroder and hosting two very special health and fitness events in Marine Park near the Carmine Carro Community Center at 3000 Fillmore Avenue.

 

The beginners’ Yoga class, with opportunities for more advanced practice and featuring short Yoga Nidra, will take place at 7 p.m. on both Thursday, May 22nd and June 5th. The events are free and open to the public. Participants are asked to bring their own yoga mat or towel.

Brooklyn - State Senator Marty Golden (R,C,I-South Brooklyn) and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R,C,I-Bay Ridge) are partnering with Yoga in Bay Ridge and 5 Boro Power Yoga to offer a series of five free yoga classes in Shore Road Park. The events, taking place throughout the summer, will provide a fun and relaxed way to improve physical health and mental well-being.

State Senator Martin Golden to Join Twin America Executives in Presenting Generous Donation to Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department (GBVFD)

What: Local officials, including State Senator Martin J. Golden, will join Twin America in presenting a donation of $5,000 to the GBVFD, which has been assisting families in surrounding communities still recovering from Hurricane Sandy. Twin America has been providing free transportation services to volunteers working on Sandy-related projects and initiatives since November 2012.

Sister Marie Antoinette

Sister Marie Antoinette was born and raised in the Bensonhurst area of Brooklyn. She attended Mary Mother of Jesus School and graduated from PS 143 in Williamsburg. Sister Marie went on to Pratt Institute and graduated in 1955, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Food and Nutrition. 

Sister Marie attended Ohio State University for her internship to become a dietitian. After her internship, she worked at Lenox Hill Hospital, Mercy Hospital and James Ewing-Cancer Research Hospital (part of the Sloan Kettering Hospital). She also has earned a Master of Science in Education degree from Brooklyn College.

SENATE CRACKS DOWN ON HIT-AND-RUN DRIVERS

Bill Passed Today Strengthens Penalties for Leaving the Scene of an Accident

 

The New York State Senate today passed legislation that increases the penalties for leaving the scene of an accident when a death, injury, or damage of property occurs. The bill (S2503), sponsored by Senator Martin Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), would deter drivers from leaving injured victims on the road, facilitate police investigations, and enable timely chemical testing of a driver if warranted.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO INCREASE PUNISHMENT OF PERSISTENT CRIMINAL OFFENDERS

 

4th Misdemeanor = 1 Felony

 

The New York State Senate passed legislation (S3074) today, sponsored by Senator Martin Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), that would authorize courts to charge criminals with a felony if they are charged with a misdemeanor after three prior misdemeanor convictions. The bill would address the issue of criminal offenders who persistently commit misdemeanor crimes, including sex offenses, yet avoid more severe felony prison sentences, leaving them free to commit additional crimes.

SENATOR GOLDEN PARTNERS WITH AMERICAN ITALIAN CANCER FOUNDATION TO PROVIDE NO COST MAMMOGRAM SCREENINGS

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is announcing his plans to host no cost mammography screenings in conjunction with The American Italian Cancer Foundation, on Monday, May 12, 2014, at his Bay Ridge office, located at 7408 5th Avenue in Brooklyn.

No cost mammograms will be available to women over 40 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. An appointment must be made by calling 1-877-628-9090.

 

Women interested in appointments must be over 40 years of age who live within Senator Golden’s district, and have not had a mammogram in the past year. While insurance is required, a limited number of appointments will be available on a first come, first serve basis to women without insurance.

Mammogram for Mother's Day

I plan to host mammography screenings in conjunction with the American Italian Cancer Foundation.

The 37 foot mobile mammography van, staffed completely by women, will be outside of Senator Golden’s District Office.

The mammography screenings take about thirty minutes to complete. An appointment, which is necessary, can be made by calling 718-238-6044.
