STATEMENT BY SENATOR GOLDEN URGING GOVERNOR CUOMO TO MAINTAIN TITLE XX FUNDING IN NEXT YEAR’S STATE BUDGET

New York – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a former Chairman of the State Senate Aging Committee, issued this statement through a representative, at a press conference today hosted by the Council of Senior Centers and Services calling on Governor Cuomo to preserve Title XX Funding in next year’s State budget so to keep more than 100 senior centers open in New York City:

“Senator Golden joins you in sending a message to Governor Andrew Cuomo asking him to not propose cuts to Title XX funding in next year’s New York State budget. Our message today is that these budget reductions unfairly target New York's senior population and New Yorkers will not accept this.

NYC DOE: Kindergarten Admissions Update

The kindergarten admissions process is school-based, but there is a standard timeline for all schools and there are citywide guidelines for eligibility and admissions priorities. Families must submit an application for kindergarten admission, even if they are applying to their zoned school. Important dates in the kindergarten admissions process for the 2012–2013 school year can be found on our Calendar and Events page:

January 9 – March 2, 2012: Kindergarten admissions period.

March 19 – March 23, 2012: Assignment notification period.

March 26 – April 20, 2012: Pre-registration period.

SENATOR GOLDEN TO HOST COMMUNITY TOWN FAIR FOR BENSONHURST AND GRAVESEND NEIGHBORHOODS

Brooklyn – State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will host his next neighborhood town fair on Thursday, December 1, 2011 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Home located at 1740-84th Street in Brooklyn.

The event, which will feature an opportunity for residents to have one on one conversations with City agencies in an informational fair setting, will also feature a town hall question and answer meeting. The NYPD will be offering crime prevention information and the Fire Department will be providing give-aways for your home.

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden is inviting friends, families and neighbors to join him as he hosts three Christmas Tree lightings to help bring out the holiday spirit throughout the community.

Senator Golden stated, "During the Christmas season, and all year, residents of our community should join together in the Christmas spirit and exhibit good will to serve the most needy. These Christmas tree lightings will serve as occasions where all can come to embrace those values together and enjoy the warmth that this holiday brings as winter comes upon us."

STATEMENT BY SENATOR GOLDEN ON TIRE SLASHING INCIDENT IN BAY RIDGE

I trust that the 68th Precinct is fully investigating the overnight tire slashing incidents that took place on 71st and 72nd Street between Ridge Boulevard and Third Avenue. We have a zero tolerance for such acts of vandalism in the Bay Ridge community and we will catch those who did this and see that they are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Anyone with any information, or if you have a video camera that may have captured this, should contact the 68th Precinct so to lead to a swift arrest

SENATOR GOLDEN PARTNERS WITH AMERICAN ITALIAN CANCER FOUNDATION TO PROVIDE FREE MAMMOGRAM SCREENINGS

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will host no-costs mammograms and clinical breast exams in conjunction with the American Italian Cancer Foundation on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Free mammograms will be available on the mobile van to be parked outside Senator Golden’s District Office located at 3604 Quentin Road.

Women interested in appointments must be over 40 years of age and have not had a mammogram in the past year. An appointment must be made by calling 1-877-628-9090. Results will be sent to the individual and/or their doctor within 10 business days.

Senator Golden is matching Councilman Greenfield’s reward offer and posting an additional $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.

“To think that in 2011, acts of such religious intolerance are happening on the streets of Brooklyn is not only disturbing, but truly disgraceful. There is no place in our society for acts of racism or religious intolerance and I join with my colleagues in government, and all New Yorkers, in condemning these acts of hatred.

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) this morning hosted his ninth annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast, honoring the men and women who served our country.

The event, which had an attendance of over 150 veterans from WWII through Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, including five Wounded Warriors who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, is the Senator’s way to thank all those who sacrificed for our freedoms.

State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) after meeting with the Department of Sanitation, is pleased to report a return of seven day a week pick-up for corner baskets throughout Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights. Currently corner baskets are picked up at most six days a week in the area, causing residents and shop owners alike to live some days with dirty, trash covered avenues.
