SENATOR GOLDEN REMINDS COMMUNITY RESIDENTS TO BE WARY OF UTILITY COMPANY SCAMS

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), the Ranking Member of the Crime Victims, Crime, and Correction Committee, in response to recent complaints received by his office, is reminding community residents of the danger of utility company scams in our neighborhoods. The most recent complaints have involved companies and individuals, often pretending to be from National Grid, contacting residents on the phone or in person. Attempts are made to confuse residents into buying their gas service or may even intentionally break equipment in a home or building and solicit the company’s services for repairs

SENATOR MARTY GOLDEN ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR 2010 HALLOWEEN WALK & FAIR

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden today announced plans for the 2010 Halloween Walk & Fairytale Forest scheduled for Sunday, October 31, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Owl’s Head Park, located at 67th Street and Colonial Road.

The annual event will feature the Haunted Walk, the Fairytale Forest, a pumpkin patch, a costume contest and much more. The event will also feature rides for the children, pony rides, face painting, sand art, a Trackless Train Ride and “Dracula’s Food Court”.

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden and City Councilman Vincent J. Gentilewill host a press conference tomorrow, Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 9:30 a.m., in front of Kings County Supreme Court, 360 Adams Street, on Cadman Plaza (West side of the building).

Senator Golden and Councilman Vincent Gentile will be joined by plaintiffs and supporters of a lawsuit they have filed against the service reductions to bus lines in Southwest Brooklyn which were implemented by the MTA on June 27, 2010.

SENATOR GOLDEN SUPPORTS WALK TO CURE BREAST CANCER

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden recently participated in the annual “Walk to Cure Breast Cancer” hosted by the Brooklyn Chapter Women’s Council of Realtors in Marine Park.

Senator Golden is pictured here with members of the Chapter at the start of the race which raised more than $4,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to support research.

Senator Golden recently hosted free mammography screenings sponsored by the American Italian Cancer Foundation.

SENATOR GOLDEN HONORS BELISA BERNACCHI ON THE OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden recently honored Belisa Bernacchi with a proclamation on the momentous celebration of her 100th Birthday. A celebration was held in the Solarium Room of the Metropolitan Jewish Nursing and Geriatrics Center Home in Brooklyn on her birthday, October 2, 2010.

Belisa Bernacchi was born on October 2, 1910 in Roccaraso, Italy in the Provincia Di Aquila and lived there until she immigrated to the United States. She settled in Chicago, Illinois.

SENATOR GOLDEN PARTNERS WITH THE VISITING NURSE SERVICE TO OFFER FREE FLU SHOTS

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) in conjunction with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, is announcing that he will be offering free flu shots for senior citizens, uninsured residents, and those who the Health Department is encouraging to get the annual flu vaccine, at two events during the first week of November.

Free flu shots will be available to the community on Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 pm at the Bay Ridge Manor, located at 476-76th Street, and on Friday, November 5, 2010, from 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Salt Marsh Nature Center, located at 3302 Avenue U.

STATEMENT BY STATE SENATOR MARTY GOLDEN ON APPROVED FARE HIKES

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), has issued a statement in response to the fare hikes approved by the MTA and scheduled to go into effect in January:

“The fare hikes approved this morning are further proof that the MTA does not care or understand that New Yorkers are struggling financially and really can’t afford to spend not even another penny on transportation.

To ask all straphangers to pay more, for less service, is arrogant on the part of the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Students, families and our working class are going to feel these hikes in their wallets and will have to make sacrifices so to meet the expense of their new personal transportation budget.

Brooklyn's 4th Senior Idol

and the winner is... Nunzio Franzese!

October 2nd was a night to remember! The audience was packed with hundreds of people cheering and screaming for their favorite singer! Twelve finalists performed singing great tunes such as My Way, It's Impossible, Your Cheating Heart and the winning song was Mack the Knife.

There were people from all over the city cheering for family and friends. They came from Staten Island, Manhattan, Queens, Dyker, Midwood, Canarsie and Babylon.

This event started 4 years ago as a fundraiser for local Bay Ridge AARP Chapter #5055 and now has become a fabulous community event that we all look forward to each year and the talent gets better and better.

SENATOR GOLDEN TO HOST TOWN HALL MEETING FOR RESIDENTS OF BAY RIDGE AND DYKER HEIGHTS

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) is announcing that he will be hosting a Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights town hall meeting, featuring numerous New York City governmental agencies, on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s School Auditorium located at 401-97th Street, corner of 97th Street and 4th Avenue, in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn – State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a former New York City Police Officer and member of the State Senate Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections, has issued a statement in response to the shooting of four Brooklyn South Shomrim patrol officers last night:

“This is another example of how the Democratic controlled legislature has failed to protect law enforcement personnel and all New Yorkers. The only reason that a criminal with nine previous arrests is allowed to walk our streets and cause harm is because of the ineffectiveness of the Senate and Assembly Democrats. Here is an example of what I have been saying, that the weakened policies adopted by the Democratic Legislature puts us all in danger.
