Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden this week honored community activist Mary Clavin, for her outstanding work on behalf of our community, with special recognition from the State Senate as a 2010 New York “Woman of Distinction.” Senator Golden presented the award to Mary Clavin, who was joined by her husband Peter, at a ceremony held in the State Capitol in Albany.

SENATOR GOLDEN CELEBRATES ASIAN PACIFIC HERITAGE MONTH

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) hosted his 7th Annual Asian Pacific Heritage Festival on this past Sunday at McKinley Park. The event, which was well attended, is held each year in conjunction with the national celebration of Asian American Heritage which is the month of May.

The program included ethnic dances including the Chinese Lion Dance, demonstration of Buddhist Monk Kung Fu, Korean Taekwondo, Thai dance, Malaysian dance, Burmese dance and Chinese dance. A wide array of ethnic food, arts and crafts and prizes were available as well.

SENATOR GOLDEN URGES U.S. DEPARTMENT OF SECURITY TO ALLOCATE FUNDS TO EXPAND LOWER MANHATTAN SECURITY INITIATIVE TO TIMES SQUARE

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a former New York City Police Officer, today has sent a letter to Rand Beers, Undersecretary for National Proection & Program with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, urging the federal government to allocate funding to New York City to expand the Lower Manhattan Security Initiative to include Times Square.

Senator Marty Golden is a member of the New York State Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Military and Veteran Affairs.

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) today is announcing that the finalists have been selected in his 8th Annual “State Senator For A Day” essay contest.

This contest invited local school children of District 20, District 21 and District 22 to write essays no more than 250-words which began with the phrase, “If I were a State Senator for A Day...”. Throughout the essay, the students write about issues facing the community such as public safety, park improvements, educational needs, and traffic concerns.

MAMMOGRAMS SAVE LIVES: GOLDEN PROMOTES ADELPHI’S NY STATEWIDE BREAST CANCER HOTLINE AND SUPPORT PROGRAM

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden today has joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program in their annual Mother’s Day breast cancer awareness campaign to urge women to get mammograms.

Senator Golden stated, “Mother’s Day is a significant time to remind women to get mammograms. I hope that this Mother’s Day women will take the time to make an appointment for a mammogram. Approximately 95 percent of all mammograms prove to be normal.”
