SENATOR GOLDEN PROPOSES TOUGH PENALTIES IN AN EFFORT TO FIGHT AGAINST RASH OF ILLEGAL CONVERSIONS IN COMMUNITY

AARP COMMENDS SENATOR GOLDEN FOR VOTING TO HELP NEW YORK'S FAMILY CAREGIVERS

ALBANY, New York – Family caregivers are too often left unprepared to provide proper care before taking their loved ones home from the hospital. State Senator Martin Golden cast a key vote this week to advance legislation ensuring caregivers are offered instruction in any post-discharge tasks their older parents, spouses or other loved ones will need at home, fostering better care and potentially avoiding costly hospital re-admissions.

Senator Golden and his colleagues on the Senate Health Committee unanimously advanced the CARE Act (S.676-Hannon) this week for consideration by the full Senate.

ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING REGULATIONS SUSPENDED THROUGH SATURDAY

The New York City Department of Transportation announced that Alternate Side Parking Regulations will be suspended Wednesday, February 4th through Saturday, February 7th to facilitate snow removal. DSNY ISSUES 'SNOW ALERT' FOR WEDNESDAY AT 10PM TO PREPARE EQUIPMENT AND PERSONNEL FOR POSSIBLE STORM

The New York City Department of Sanitation has issued an agency preparedness ‘snow alert’ for Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 10 p.m. A snow alert is not a weather forecast, but indicates the potential of a snow event. Calling a snow alert allows DSNY to begin to prepare for a possible response by loading salt spreaders, attaching plows (if necessary), preparing tire chains and notifying other city agencies and supplementary personnel as needed.

SENATE PASSES THE CRIMINAL STREET GANG ACT SPONSORED BY SENATOR GOLDEN

The New York State Senate today passed legislation to reduce gang violence and protect communities throughout the state. The New York State Criminal Street Gang Act (S1701), sponsored by Senator Martin Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), would prosecute and prevent criminal gang activity by creating tough new penalties for gang-related crimes, as well as develop gang prevention programs for schools, at-risk youth, and prison inmates.

MARINE PARKWAY-GIL HODGES MEMORIAL BRIDE CLOSED TUESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY

The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be closed to all traffic beginning Tues., Feb. 3 at 11:59 p.m. until 4 a.m. Wed., Feb 4 for necessary maintenance. 

Detour signs will be in place. Motorists who normally use the bridge during this time must use the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge instead. Crews will be performing maintenance work and multiple test lifts during this time.

LIMITED COLLECTION TO RESUME TODAY AT 7PM

The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) will resume limited collection throughout the city starting tonight at 7 p.m.  Due to prior Monday holidays and suspensions due to snow operations, DSNY crews will be focusing on collecting recycling in areas scheduled for Monday recycling service.

Residents whose Monday recycling wasn’t collected earlier because of the snowstorms and holidays should place their material out at the curbside.  Residents are asked to place their material out in a cleared area, if possible, to help Sanitation Workers gain access to the cans and bags.

Light snow expected Thursday night through Friday morning, with dangerously frigid temperatures and life-threatening wind chill to follow Friday through Saturday. 

Seniors, infants, the homeless, and those with chronic medical conditions are at increased risk of health problems from the cold
