As we rapidly approach the New Year, I just wanted to touch base to let you know that a number of new laws will be taking effect on January 1, 2015. These include:
Hire a Veteran Tax Credit – Starting next year, businesses can receive a tax credit for hiring and employing a qualified veteran. The credit is equal to 10 percent of the total amount of wages paid to the qualified veteran during their first full year of employment. If the veteran is disabled, the credit amount is increased to 15 percent. The credit is capped at $5,000 per veteran or $15,000 per disabled veteran. Any unused credit may be carried forward to the following three years.
Today two members of the NYPD were brutally killed in an apparent execution in Brooklyn. My thoughts and prayers go out to their families and all members of the department trying to keep our city safe.
Its unfortunate that our city has back tracked on 40 years of police relations.
Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will join the parents, friends and supporters of Pietro Joseph Scarso, a local 5 year old boy fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, at a press event tomorrow, Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. to mark the fundraising and public awareness campaign, “PJ’s for PJ”.
The press availability will take place at Pietro’s school, Stepping Stones – The Next Step, located at 9321 Ridge Boulevard in Brooklyn. All of the students will be dressed in their pajamas and have made a donation to Pietro’s Fight.
25 schools in total are participating in this community wide pajama party and fundraiser tomorrow.

Last night’s fire on Flatbush Avenue, which resulted in a loss of life and many injured, further highlights the need for Mayor Bill de Blasio to create a multi-agency task force to address this issue.

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), Chairman of the State Senate Civil Service and Pensions Committee and member of the Veteran and Military Affairs Committee, today has issued the following statement following Governor Andrew Cuomo’s veto of legislation he co-sponsored, S. 7839/A. 6974, that would amend the New York State Military Service Credit Law to authorize state and municipal pension credits for peacetime military service.
Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today hosted his annual Veterans Day breakfast and awards ceremony earlier today and was joined by United States Army Garrison Commander Joseph Davidson, Congressman Michael Grimm and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, in remembering and paying tribute to the Brooklyn veterans gathered.
The program featured special recognition of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Catholic War Veterans Russo-De Marco Post #1702, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans, Vietnam Veterans Jose H. Hernandez and Thomas Karnes, and an NYPD Transit Authority K-9 Caesar, who served three tours for the United States military in Afghanistan.
Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing that he has awarded over $68,000 to support security improvements for five area Catholic schools including St. Anselm Catholic Academy, St. Bernadette Catholic School, St. Ephrem Catholic School, St. Patrick Catholic Academy and Holy Angels Catholic Academy.
The funding allocated to each of these schools will in part support the purchase of new surveillance cameras, intercom system, new lighting, the replacement of metal exit doors, new and improved alarm systems, roof exterior doors, and other safety controls.
Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today announced plans for the 2014 Halloween Walk and Fairytale Forest scheduled for Friday, October 31, 2014, from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Owl’s Head Park, located at 67th Street and Colonial Road.
The 19th Annual event will feature the Haunted Walk, the Fairytale Forest, a pumpkin patch, costumed characters, kid’s activities, arts and crafts, and a costume contest. The event will also feature rides for the children, face painting, sand art, a Trackless Train Ride, and “Dracula’s Food Court”.
Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, 22nd District) is today announcing that the Metropolitan Transit Authority has scheduled the Metro Card Van to visit his Bay Ridge District Office, located at 7408-5th Avenue, on Monday, November 3, 2014 from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
The Metro Card Bus will enable the local residents to take care of all their Metro Card business at the Metro Card Bus, whether it's applying for or refilling a Reduced-Fare Metro Card, buying or refilling a regular Metro Card, or asking a MetroCard-related question. Senator Golden assures residents that they will receive prompt and attentive service.

Fourteen finalists will be performing a wide variety of songs including Italian Opera and some of the greatest hits of all time. One winner will be named "Senior Idol" and awarded a $500 prize sponsored by Investor's Bank.

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing that he has awarded $200,000 in educational funding, through the New York State Senate, to support and assist the teachers and students of more than fifteen schools in his district.
The funding has been awarded in response to requests from individual schools as to the need for financial assistance to develop and improve instructional programming. Many of the schools included smart boards and laptop carts a top their wish lists recently addressed to Senator Golden.
Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden, the Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Science, Technology, Incubation and Entrepreneurship, today is announcing that he has introduced legislation that will allow the email of a person who has passed away to be accessed by the executor of their estate.
The bill, S. 6176, has been introduced in the wake of growing concerns as more and more New Yorkers decide to handle their bills and finances electronically. As a result, individuals designated to settle an estate upon a person’s passing, require the information contained in new e-mail messages, and documents stored in email folders.
