SENATOR GOLDEN TO HOST A PATRIOTIC FLAG DAY CONCERT TO HONOR THE USA

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is inviting all local residents to celebrate Flag Day at a patriotic concert this Saturday, June 15th, 2013 starting at 12:00 pm in Cannon Ball Park located at 4th Avenue and 101st Street.

 

The Concert will feature a patriotic musical performance reminiscent of the greatest generation of our Nation. This Flag Day Concert will celebrate the day that the famous Stars and Stripes were adopted by the Continental Congress. It will also bring honor and thanks to those who are serving and have served in our nation’s military, as we owe everything to their service.

STATE SENATOR GOLDEN ANNOUNCES EFFORTS TO ASSIST RESIDENTS WITH NYC BUILD IT BACK GRANTS

Senator to host additional office hours with NIA and a Forum with the Mayor’s Housing Recover Office.

 

Brooklyn, NY – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I) today has announced a series of new measures his office is taking to assist residents and business owners who suffered damage due to Superstorm Sandy. Following last week’s announcement from Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, creating the New York City Build It Back Grant program, Senator Golden is teaming up with both Neighborhood Improvement Association and The Mayor’s Housing Recovery Office in order to give direct assistance in with grant applications and helping to provide more detailed information.

GOLDEN JOINS FORCES WITH NYC TO CLEAN GRAFFITI IN HONOR OF BROOKLYN-QUEENS DAY

 

 

NYC Graffiti Free trucks to clean graffiti across Community Boards 10 & 11

 

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), in honor of Brooklyn-Queens Day, working with NYC Graffiti Free and the Mayor’s Office, will be sending graffiti cleanup trucks throughout Community Board 10 and 11 tomorrow, June 6, 2013.

 

These trucks will be removing graffiti from all properties who have signed up for the Graffiti Free Program.

 

The day will kick off at 10 AM at 6401 18th Avenue, Brooklyn.

SENATOR GOLDEN CALLS FOR EXPANDED TRANSPORTATION SERVICE FOR RESIDENTS FOLLOWING THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF MONTAGUE STREET TUNNEL CLOSURE

Closure set for 14 months for construction due to Sandy.

 

Albany, NY – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today has sent a letter to President Thomas F. Prendergast of the MTA NYCT and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg calling for expanded and increased transportation alternatives to alleviate the strain on commuters during the proposed 14 month long closure of the Montague Street Tunnel.

 

The letter calls for the following services:

 

· An increase of 50% in frequency of both X27 & X28 service

· A full restoration of the X28 Weekend Service

· A reduced fare for Express Bus Service for the X27 and X28 throughout the construction.

· A full restoration of the B37, the former 3rd Avenue Bus Line

SENATOR GOLDEN RESCHEDULES ASIAN PACIFIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today announced that he will be hosting his 11th Annual Asian Pacific Heritage Festival at McKinley Park on Sunday, June 9 2013, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., located at Bay Ridge Parkway and Fort Hamilton Parkway, and is inviting the community to join in this special event held in conjunction with the national celebration of Asian American Heritage. Due to heavy rain on May 19, the celebration was postponed

 

The program will include ethnic dances including the Chinese Lion Dance, demonstration of Buddhist Monk Kung Fu, Malaysian dance, Burma dance and Chinese dance. A wide array of ethnic food, arts and crafts and prizes will be available as well.

GOLDEN: STUDENTS TO COMPETE FOR TITLE OF “SENATOR FOR A DAY”

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) will host his 11th Annual “State Senator for a Day” essay contest ceremonial event tomorrow, Friday, May 31, 2013, starting at 6 p.m., at the Shore Hill Community Room, 9000 Shore Road. Seventeen students from our local schools have been selected to participate and present their essays before a panel of judges.

 

Earlier this year, Senator Golden asked 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to participate in the contest by writing a 250-word essay starting with the phrase, “If I Were A State Senator For A Day.” The winning essays will be judged on content and creativity. The first place winner will be invited with their class to spend a day in the State Capitol in Albany.

SENATE PASSES BILL CREATING “DEADBEAT PARENTS MOST WANTED LIST”

The New York State Senate today passed legislation that creates a “deadbeat parents most wanted list” of financially-delinquent parents who are substantially late or behind on child support payments. The bill (S.4114), sponsored by Senator Martin Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), is intended to locate parents who owe more than $10,000 in child support payments.

Aunts, Uncles, Adult Siblings and Great-Grandparents Could Seek Guardianship or Custody of Children Whose Own Parents Are Unable to Raise Them

 

ALBANY, N.Y. – Tens of thousands of children in New York being raised by aunts, uncles and adult siblings when their own parents have stepped out of the picture could get a better footing in life under a bill working its way through the New York State Legislature.

 

The “Relative Caregiver Bill” (S2094A/A7189A), sponsored by Senator Martin Golden (R-Brooklyn) and Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Queens), would give these relatives the same rights as grandparents when raising children whose own parents are unable to do so.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO INCREASE FINES FOR LITTERING ON HIGHWAYS

The New York State Senate today passed legislation that would increase the fines for littering on highways and the lands next to them. The bill (S.2311), sponsored by Senator John DeFrancisco (R-I-C, Syracuse), doubles the fines for littering.

 

“Littering not only impacts the appearance of the roadways, it also can pose driving hazards, and trash is very costly to remove,” said Senator DeFrancisco. “Stiffening the fines for those who are caught throwing trash on the highways should help to serve as a deterrent, and help to clean up the roadways in our state.”

 

The fine for a first offense would be $700 and $1,400 for a second offense.

 

The bill will be sent to the Assembly.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO PROTECT INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS

Measure Prohibits Use of Phones or Hands-Free Devices By Those With Learner’s Permits

 

The New York State Senate today passed a bill to protect young and inexperienced drivers by helping to remove distractions that could lead to accidents. The legislation (S1511A), sponsored by Senator Carl Marcellino (R, Syosset), prohibits the use of cell phones – including hands-free devices – by drivers who hold learner’s permits.

SENATE PASSES MEASURE TO INCREASE PENALTIES FOR SELLING DRUGS IN PARKS OR ON PLAYGROUNDS

The New York State Senate today passed a bill increasing penalties for people who sell drugs in playgrounds and parks. The bill (S.2173A), sponsored by Senator Martin Golden (R-I-C, Brooklyn), would further protect kids and their families from the dangers of people who prey on children.

 

“People who try to take advantage of our children should be dealt harsher penalties,” said Senator Golden. “We need to protect kids from the dangers of drug dealers, especially in places where they’re supposed to be safe – schools, parks, and playgrounds. This legislation expands on the work we have done in the past to protect kids from these predators in their schools and will hopefully make playgrounds and parks totally off limits to drug dealers.”

S4838 would insure that mental health patients would only move from adult homes if there are safe and appropriate community placements

 

 

Albany, NY – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) issued the following statement, following today’s Senate’s passage of S4838, a bill which would insure that safe and appropriate community housing options are available before individuals with mental illnesses are moved from adult homes. The State Department of Health and the Department of Mental Hygiene has promulgated regulations requiring adult homes to reduce their census of mental health patients to 25% of the total residents in the homes. The regulations produced concern among providers of services and the general public.

SENATOR GOLDEN, FOLLOWING LAST WEEKS INCIDENT AT HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY, CALLS ON NEW YORK STATE BOARD OF PAROLE TO RELEASE PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), following the tragic death of a Hofstra University student last week, today wrote to the Chairwoman of the New York State Board of Parole, Andrea Evans, requesting information and statistics regarding their process and procedure for dealing with parolees inside the State of New York.

 

The letter, which is a follow up to correspondence initiated in 2010, outlines specific concerns the Senator has with proper oversight. Senator Golden calls on the New York State Board of Parole to share both specific statistics for current parolees and answer five questions regarding oversight. The letter is both attached and below.

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), with the South West Brooklyn Parks Task Force, is announcing plans to host a series of fourteen concerts and events throughout July and August in our local parks in Senator Golden’s district.The concerts begin on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. as Bay Ridge’s Party Band, “Head Over Heels” and Classic Southern Rock group “Headin’ South,” plays 79th Street and Shore Road. The next night, Wednesday, July 10, 2013, “Sound Affair” will entertain the crowd in Marine Park with 60’s – 90’s Dance.
