SENATOR GOLDEN TO HONOR ITALIAN CULTURE AND HERITAGE AT COMMUNITY AWARDS CELEBRATION

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing his plans to host a community celebration and awards ceremony in honor of Italian Heritage Month to be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., at St. Athansius Auditorium, 6120 Bay Parkway in Brooklyn.

 

The honorees to be recognized by Senator Golden are Arthur Aidala, Dr. Harry DeMeo, New York City Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano and Michael Gargiulo of WNBC’s Today in New York.

SENATOR GOLDEN PLANS ANNUAL FALL TOWN HALL MEETINGS

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing that he will be hosting his annual Fall town hall meetings and is inviting residents of the community to attend and discuss quality of life and legislative issues.

 

The first town hall meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Salt Marsh Nature Center, located at East 33rd Street and Avenue U. The next day, Wednesday, October 24, 2012, Senator Golden will host another town hall at 7:00 p.m. at Bay Ridge Preparatory School located at 8101 Ridge Boulevard.

SENATOR MARTY GOLDEN WEARS A PINK RIBBON AT REALTORS' WALK FOR THE CURE

ANNOUNCES FREE BREAST CANCER SCREENINGS

 

Brooklyn- Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) this past weekend attended the Women's Council of Realtors Brooklyn Chapter's Annual Walk for the Cure in Marine Park. Today, he is also announcing that he will host two breast cancer screening events, sponsored by the American Italian Cancer Foundation, and is encouraging women in the community to call now for an appointment.

 

A mobile mammography van, staffed completely by women, will be parked outside Senator Golden's District Office at 3604 Quentin Road on Wednesday, October 31st from 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. and outside his office located at 7408-5th Avenue on Thursday, November 1st, also from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Brooklyn – State Senator Mary Golden will host a Cardiac Health and Stroke Prevention Symposium, in conjunction with Maimonides Medical Center, on Monday, October 22, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at SS Simon and Jude Parish Elementary School Auditorium located at 294 Avenue T (across from the Church).

SENATOR GOLDEN HONORS FORT HAMILTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WITH UNIDAD LATINA SCHOLARSHIP

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today visited Fort Hamilton High School and honored senior Joel Acevedo upon his selection for a $2000 scholarship awarded by Unidad Latina. Joel Acevedo, who was nominated by Senator Golden, was one of the 15 college-bound high school seniors recently awarded a scholarship through this program.

 

Senator Marty Golden stated, “Joel is a distinguished young man who has already proven his commitment to both his community and education. I am confident that he will excel in his future education and I am proud to have nominated him for this scholarship.”

This year, we again have another list of performers who have great talent and will be sure to entertain the crowd. CITY AND STATE OFFICIALS CALL FOR PASSAGE OF SENATOR GOLDEN’S CRIME STOPPING ANTI-GUN LEGISLATION

Staten Island –Legislation introduced by State Senator Martin Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) to rid our streets of the presence of “community guns”, today received the endorsement of Richmond County District Attorney Daniel Donovan, State Senator Andrew Lanza (R-C, Staten Island) and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-C, Brooklyn/Staten Island) at a news conference held at the Staten Island District Attorney’s Office. The elected officials called for the New York State Legislature to pass S. 7839.

 

The legislation would enhance the public safety of all New Yorkers by increasing penalties for the sharing, availability, sale, exchange, giving or disposal of a “community gun” so to be used to commit crimes and intimidate others.

Rep. Grimm and Sen. Golden Propose Brooklyn Street Naming for 9/11 Hero

BROOKLYN, NY – Today, Rep. Michael G. Grimm (R,C-Brooklyn/S.I.) and State Senator Marty Golden (R,C,I - Brooklyn) sent a letter to Community Board 10 Chairwoman Joanne Seminara in support of naming the northeast corner of 5th Avenue and 85th Street “Firefighter Michael G. Behette 9/11 Memorial Way.” Michael Behette was a Dyker Heights resident and firefighter who died last month from a 9/11-related cancer. His family has requested the street naming in his honor, and Rep. Grimm and Senator Golden are lending their full support.

NYPD Community Affairs Bureau has announced that various precincts will be participating this Saturday, September 29th, in the 5th Annual National Prescription Pill Take Back Day. New Yorkers are invited to drop off unused prescription pills/medication at various location and 22 police precincts in our City, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., including locally the 61st Precinct (2575 Coney Island Avenue) and the 68th Precinct (333-65th Street). SENATOR GOLDEN ANNOUNCES METROCARD VAN SCHEDULES OCTOBER VISIT TO BROOKLYN OFFICE

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) is today announcing that the Metropolitan Transit Authority has scheduled the Metro Card Van to visit his Bay Ridge District Office, located at 7408-5th Avenue, on Monday, October 1, 2012 from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

The Metro Card Bus will enable the local residents to take care of all their Metro Card business at the Metro Card Bus, whether it's applying for or refilling a Reduced-Fare Metro Card, buying or refilling a regular Metro Card, or asking a MetroCard-related question. Senator Golden assures residents that they will receive prompt and attentive service.

Local Street Closings Notification from the 68th Precinct

From September 21st through the 23rd Holy Cross will be holding their annual Greek Cultural Festival. To allow for this wonderful event to take place the following street closures will be in effect:

There will be no parking and no vehicular traffic on Ridge Blvd between 84th Street and 86th Street during the following dates/times:

Friday, September 21st- 2pm to 11:30 pm

Saturday, September 22nd- 11:30 am to 11:30 pm

Sunday, September 23rd- 11:30am to 10:00 pm

85th Street between Colonial Road and Ridge Blvd. will be closed to traffic during the same time periods.
