Bushwick Houses Among NYC Housing Projects to Receive Federal Funding Under Passage of Senate Bill

The New York State Senate recently passed legislation that will allow for New York City Housing Authority owned developments, such as Bushwick Houses, to fall under federal oversight and qualify for much-needed funding.

For more than a decade,  21 NYCHA developments have received no funding from the City and State of New York. Pending additional budget cuts in the proposed 2010–11 state budget, NYCHA stood to face an unprecedented $88 million operational budget shortfall.

School to Open for 2009-2010 School Year(Brooklyn, NY)—Recently Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Brooklyn) attended the dedication of the Cesiah Toro Mullane Campus, affectionately known as “The Little Red School House,”  upon completion of renovations as a part of a city-wide school capital plan.The school house, P.S. 65, underwent renovations to combine what was two buildings into a state of the art 97,000 square foot, 700 seat facility.

(Albany, NY)—Recently Senate bill, S.3624 sponsored by Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Brooklyn) passed the Senate increasing New York State Bridge Authority’s ability to finance improvement projects.

This legislation, amends the Public Authorities Law to increase New York State Bridge Authority’s power to issue bonds and notes in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $153,255,000.

Senator Dilan Asks New Yorkers to Consider Enhanced Licenses for Travel

Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Brooklyn) is urging New Yorkers who regularly travel outside the United States to apply for an Enhanced Driver License (EDL).

As of June 1, 2009, the federal Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative requires an EDL, or other federal identification papers, for travel into the country by land or sea from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
