Senator Dilan joined nearly 50, 8th graders from Middle School 577 were in Albany to join other students, parents and teachers to call for a $1.9 billion increase in school aid as part of the upcoming Executive Budget. The Alliance for Quality Education (AQENY), Senator Dilan and more than 80 legislators mirrored the request in a letter to the Governor, citing sweeping education cuts over the last five years and the growing inequity between rich and poor school district throughout the state.
On Tuesday, following months of delays, the Federal Railroad Administration quietly posted to its website a New York State study study outlining five different options for "high speed rail" connecting New York City to Niagara Falls.
The study was supposed to have been released in June, after it was reviewed by the federal government, and as recently as this morning, New York State's transportation commissioner was apparently still unaware that the review was complete.

Parks and Trails New York, the Tri-State Transportation Campaign and the New York Bicycling Coalition have been urging lawmakers to add funding for bicyclist and pedestrian infrastructure to the budget.
According to the letter signed by 20 senators, a federal transportation law cut the state's money for bicycle and pedestrian projects by $12 million a year.

Senator Dilan joined state representatives, city officials and advocates at the intersection of McGuinness Boulevard and Nassau Avenue to welcome the latest of 25 planned arterial slow zones throughout the city. McGuinness Boulevard joins Atlantic Avenue and the Grand Concourse as a 25 mph arterial slow zone, with signal re-timings and new signage to be added in the coming weeks.
In recent weeks, the L train has suffered from hour-long delays, overcrowded platforms and other service problems. Riders Alliance member Alexis Saba shared her experience with transit delays. “On [March 17], I waited forever on the L train before we actually left,” she said. “When we finally left, the train crawled to Bedford, and were told that a rail was out and that Bedford was the last stop—and I couldn’t physically get out of the Bedford station due to the crowds.”
On Tuesday Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters that the DREAM Act and the Education Investment Tax Credit (EITC) he had paired were no longer part of budget negotiations. For many Black and Latino legislators the news was painful - they had pushed Cuomo to include the DREAM Act as part of his budget after he and Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul campaigned on the issue across the city this summer. But there was also a sinking sense of deja vu.
