Senator Dilan Session Comments on Bill to Restore Road and Bridge Fund

Senator Dilan asks Senator Thomas Libous for a explanation of his bill S.1071 before questioning the legislation's ability to restore balance to the state fund dedicated to road and bridge maintenance and construction.

Leandra's Legacy

Senator Dilan is presented an award by the Lewis Henry Morgan Institute for his work with Lenny Rosado on the passage of Leandra's Law. The law strengthens penalties on those convicted of driving while intoxicated with child passengers.The law is named after 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, Lenny's daughter, who tragically died in 2009 when the car she was riding in crashed. The driver was intoxicated.

Brooklyn, not Albany, knows best what should happen on Brooklyn streets.

That is the thinking behind a bill sponsored by state Sen. Martin Malave Dilan (D—Bushwick) that would allow the Council to reduce the speed limit on residential streets citywide to 20 miles per hour without state approval.

“It will save lives,” Dilan said. “I am excited.”

I commend Governor Cuomo and my Senate Colleagues for delivering a responsible spending plan that spends smart, invests in our students, and offers some much-needed relief for our working families,” said Senator Dilan.
