Senator Dilan Lauds Passage of Legislation Increasing New York State Bridge Authority’s Ability to Finance Infrastructure Improvements

(Albany, NY)—Recently Senate bill, S.3624 sponsored by Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Brooklyn) passed the Senate increasing New York State Bridge Authority’s ability to finance improvement projects.

This legislation, amends the Public Authorities Law to increase New York State Bridge Authority’s power to issue bonds and notes in an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $153,255,000.

Senator Dilan Asks New Yorkers to Consider Enhanced Licenses for Travel

Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Brooklyn) is urging New Yorkers who regularly travel outside the United States to apply for an Enhanced Driver License (EDL).

As of June 1, 2009, the federal Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative requires an EDL, or other federal identification papers, for travel into the country by land or sea from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Senate Legislation Sponsored by Senator Dilan Allows Emergency Responders to Quickly Remove Disabled Vehicles from Roadways

(Albany, NY)—Today legislation sponsored by Senator Martin Malavé Dilan, Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, passed the Senate, making an emergency responders job easier when it comes to clearing accident debris.

Senate bill, S5174, brings New York in line with similar provisions in other states that relieves police officers, emergency responders and those who act pursuant to their direction, such as tow truck operators, from liability when removing vehicles and accident debris from highways.

Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Passes Senate

Legislation will help redevelopment efforts of distressed communities

Today the New York State Senate passed legislation strengthening a 2006 community redevelopment program.

The Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HRTC), S2960-B, sponsored by Senator Valesky, augments the existing state program to bring New York State in line with 30 other states with successful programs. The changes will allow the state to target reinvestment to distressed communities, as determined by the U.S. Census.

New Pfizer Inc. Program Gives Families Access to Free Medication

Helps to maintain prescription coverage despite loss of job

(Albany, NY)—Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Brooklyn) is spreading the word of yet another prescription assistance program, this time by the graces of private industry.

Pfizer Inc., recently announced that it will help families who have lost health insurance maintain access to any Pfizer drugs prescribed to them at no cost. The new program, Medicines Assistance for Those who Are in Need (MAINTAIN), gives access to Pfizer medicines for free to eligible unemployed Americans and their families.

(Brooklyn, NY)—Upon news that state agencies set a plan in action to assist New York City’s unemployed, Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Brooklyn) is urging out-of-work New Yorkers to make the best of new benefits and assistance.

On Monday, April 20 a coordinated effort led by the state Department of Labor, and Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance set vital federal funds to work extending Unemployment Insurance benefits, job opportunities and financial transportation assistance for more than 27,000 New York City residents.
