SENATOR NOZZOLIO ANNOUNCES LEGISLATION REQUIRING PROMPT DELIVERY OF STATE TAX REFUNDS

 

Senator Mike Nozzolio announced that today, the Senate enacted legislation today that would ensure timely payment of state income tax refunds. The bill, S.1782, requires the State Department of Taxation and Finance to pay tax refunds within 30 days of receiving a taxpayer’s return, unless there is a discrepancy in the return.

SENATOR NOZZOLIO ANNOUNCES OPENING OF THE NEW FINGER LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE VITICULTURE AND WINE CENTER IN GENEVA

Earlier today, State Senator Mike Nozzolio, along with Assemblyman Brian Kolb, Dr. Barbara Risser, President of Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC), and numerous local officials and academic leaders, officially opened the new FLCC Viticulture and Wine Center.  The new world-class center is the only program of its kind in the Northeast and will create numerous jobs and economic opportunities in a wide variety of fields related to tourism and the wine and grape industry.

SENATOR NOZZOLIO ANNOUNCES LEGISLATION TARGETING CYBER TERRORISM ENACTED IN STATE SENATE

Senator Mike Nozzolio announced that the New York State Senate enacted four measures to crack down on cyber terrorism and its rapidly expanding threat to the state’s security and finances. The legislation would enact tougher penalties for cyber-related crimes, create cyber security programs to identify potential risks and threats, and require the state to perform a comprehensive review of all its cyber security measures every five years.

SENATOR NOZZOLIO CALLS ON RESIDENTS TO SIGN GAS TAX PETITION

State Senator Mike Nozzolio today called on residents to sign his petition to cut the gas tax and ensure that the funds collected from the tax are used properly. While national news stories tout gas for less than $2 per gallon, New Yorkers have seen prices drop but are still paying significantly more than in other states. Currently, New York leads the continental United States when it comes to the price at the pump.

“With gas prices falling across the country, New Yorkers have seen little relief at the pump and have literally watched the roads crumbling beneath them,” said Senator Nozzolio. “My goal is to cut New York’s gas tax and make sure that any funds collected are used to repair our deteriorating infrastructure.”

REMINDER: VOLUNTARY INCOME TAX CHECK-OFF FOR VETERANS REMEMBRANCE AND CEMETERY MAINTENANCE OPERATION FUND

Continuing his strong commitment to our veterans and their families, New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today reminded individuals filing their 2014 New York State income taxes that they will have the opportunity to make a voluntary contribution to support veterans cemeteries in New York State. This fund is an important step in the process to designate specific areas in New York State for a State Veterans cemetery. This voluntary contribution can be made as a deduction from an individual’s tax refund or as an additional monetary donation on New York State tax returns. Contributions are 100% voluntary.

SENATOR NOZZOLIO HOLDS FIRST HEARING ON POLICE SAFETY AND PUBLIC PROTECTION

Senator Michael Nozzolio, Chairman of the New York State Senate Codes Committee, today held the first in a series of public hearings to provide a thorough review of issues affecting the safety of law enforcement, first responders, and the public in New York State. The hearing was jointly convened in New York City by four Senate Committees to address serious concerns raised by the shooting deaths of two NYPD Officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, and Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson, in addition to other recent attacks and hostility directed at law enforcement.

Senator Mike Nozzolio Reappointed Chairman of Senate Budget Sub-Committee for Public Protection

New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been reappointed to serve as the Chairman of the New York Senate Budget Sub-Committee for Public Protection.   The Public Protection Budget Sub-Committee is responsible for reviewing all aspects of the criminal justice budget as well as budgets for correctional services, military and naval affairs, the state police, the judiciary and homeland security. Over the course of the next several weeks, the Sub-Committee will be meeting as the Senate prepares its budget proposal for the Fiscal Year 2016.

SENATOR NOZZOLIO LEADS EFFORT TO ELIMINATE GAP ELIMINATION ADJUSTMENT AND REDUCE PROPERTY TAXES IN UPSTATE

Senator Michael Nozzolio announced he has reintroduced his legislation, Senate Bill 512 in the New York State Senate and is leading the effort to end the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) once and for all in New York.

 “Over the last several years, I have heard from hundreds of parents, teachers, school board members, school superintendents and administrators throughout my district, all with the same message; help us put an end to the disastrous Gap Elimination Adjustment,” said Senator Nozzolio.

State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been reappointed as Chairman of the New York State Senate Codes Committee.  The Committee is one of the most important and active committees in the State Legislature and has jurisdiction over all aspects of criminal justice policy. “It is an honor for me to again be given the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Codes Committee. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Committee to strengthen our State’s criminal justice laws and to work to protect our communities from violent criminals,” said Senator Nozzolio.

Now that we are well into the New Year, the sports seasons run into each other and add a wide variety of options for our viewing pleasure.  The college football championships have been completed, the teams who will play in the Super Bowl have been determined and the basketball and hockey seasons are beginning to be defined.
