SENATOR NOZZOLIO LEADS EFFORT TO ELIMINATE GAP ELIMINATION ADJUSTMENT AND REDUCE PROPERTY TAXES IN UPSTATE

Senator Michael Nozzolio announced he has reintroduced his legislation, Senate Bill 512 in the New York State Senate and is leading the effort to end the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) once and for all in New York.

 “Over the last several years, I have heard from hundreds of parents, teachers, school board members, school superintendents and administrators throughout my district, all with the same message; help us put an end to the disastrous Gap Elimination Adjustment,” said Senator Nozzolio.

The GEA was an unfair state aid cut to schools that was enacted in 2010 by the

State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been reappointed as Chairman of the New York State Senate Codes Committee.  The Committee is one of the most important and active committees in the State Legislature and has jurisdiction over all aspects of criminal justice policy. “It is an honor for me to again be given the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Codes Committee. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Committee to strengthen our State’s criminal justice laws and to work to protect our communities from violent criminals,” said Senator Nozzolio.

Looking Ahead: Lowering Taxes, Creating Jobs, and Investing in Infrastructure

Taxes in New York are too high, and as a result, New York is losing people, businesses, and good paying jobs to other states with lower taxes and better economic climates. Although we have taken significant steps to cut taxes and make New York more business friendly, there is still a great deal of work to be done.

We all know someone who has lost his or her job as the result of a business closure or the decision to move the company to a more business friendly state. It's a story that repeats itself time and time again-- and must be rewritten. Families are leaving the State instead of building their futures here.

Senator Mike Nozzolio today announced that measures to help veterans find employment and housing are among the highlights of new state laws that will take effect on January 1, 2015.

“It is my belief that there is no greater debt of honor owed to anyone than that which every American citizen owes to our veterans, especially those who have been disabled while serving our Nation,” said Senator Mike Nozzolio. “Our veterans have sacrificed so much to protect our country and its people, and these new laws are a way in which we can honor our veterans and begin to repay the debt we owe to them.”

STATE SENATE TO HOLD JOINT COMMITTEE HEARINGS IN JANUARY ABOUT POLICE SAFETY AND PUBLIC PROTECTION Hearings Will Focus on Serious Safety Concerns Raised By the Shooting Deaths of Two New York City Police Officers

The New York State Senate will hold a series of public hearings convened by four Senate committees starting in early January to examine police safety and public protection in New York City and throughout the state.  The hearings will review serious safety concerns raised by the shooting deaths of two NYPD Officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, in addition to other recent attacks and hostility directed at law enforcement.

Senator Mike Nozzolio today announced that over $500,000 in State funding is being awarded to three Finger Lakes Region Airports for aviation safety, security and economic development projects.

“Transportation infrastructure investment in the Finger Lakes is vital to our region’s success,” said Senator Nozzolio. “This funding, which will provide crucial upgrades to some of the key airports in the region, will have a positive impact on our economy and tourism here in the Finger Lakes.”

Senator Mike Nozzolio will speak at the annual "Wreaths Across America” service on Saturday, December 13th at the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus. A holiday wreath will be placed on the grave of every veteran buried in the cemetery. Senator Mike Nozzolio will join with local veterans, community leaders as well as the families and friends of those buried at Sampson to honor their service to our Nation. The event is open to the public is everyone is encouraged to attend this meaningful event.

Senator Mike Nozzolio Calls for a Halt to a Multi-billion Unfunded Federal Mandate Following President Obama’s Immigration Order

New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio, today urged federal officials in Congress to block any attempts by President Obama’s Administration to initiate changes in immigration policies that could cost New York State’s taxpayers over $2 billion annually.   “Establishing this change in immigration policy ordered by President Obama could result in a massive unfunded federal mandate on New York taxpayers of unprecedented proportions,” Senator Nozzolio said in opposing this measure.
