New York State is facing the most difficult of times. Every single day, New York is losing businesses and jobs to more job-friendly states. The new year, new Governor and new Senate Leadership in our State government brings with it real opportunity for change. It's time to take firm and decisive action to turn our State around.
The states that encourage business and job growth will be the states that will succeed in the next decade. I am committed to making the changes necessary to change the direction of our State and to renew hope and prosperity for all New Yorkers. My immediate priorities for New York State in 2011 are:
New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today voiced opposition and raised serious concerns with proposed plans to dismantle the State juvenile justice system by allowing localities to operate their own juvenile justice services. It has been proposed by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others that the Office of Children and Family Services transfer the juvenile justice system to local community-based programs. This proposal would include the closure of the Louis Gossett Jr. Center in Lansing.
New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today blasted officials at the Department of Environmental Conservation for forcing through without public scrutiny a new set of invasive regulations restricting the use of outdoor wood boilers. These regulations were hastily enacted at a meeting of the DEC’s Environmental Review Board that was announced just days before the vote and without an opportunity for public comment.
Continuing his aggressive efforts to ensure dangerous violent felons are never released into our communities, State Senator Mike Nozzolio is demanding that Governor Paterson deny clemency to Holly Coomber, an inmate serving a 12 1/2 to 25 year sentence at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for her role in the violent and cold blooded murder of Donna Guerriri.
“Donna's family and our entire region still mourns her loss and the life of this vibrant young woman, who was a daughter, a wife and a mother of two small children. The pain and suffering that Holly Coomber has caused Donna Guerriri's family can never be erased and cannot and should not be excused,” said Senator Nozzolio.
Seneca Falls- New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio continues his unwavering commitment to the brave men and women serving our Nation overseas by hosting his annual Holiday Drive for the Troops. As he did last year, Senator Nozzolio is once again working with several local leaders to expand the Holiday Drive, including New York State Assemblyman Bob Oaks, New York State Assemblyman Gary Finch and Webster Supervisor R
No nation in the history of the world has ever done more or given more in the defense of world freedom than the United States and its citizens.
Just as our veterans recognized their duty to honor and serve their Country, we too must recognize our duty as Americans to honor the profound sacrifices they made so that we could live our lives in freedom.
In response to the federal Environmental Impact Statement declaring there would be no significant impact on the region if the Cayuga Indian Nation put their land in Seneca and Cayuga Counties into trust, State Senator Mike Nozzolio blasted the federal government for their reckless disregard of thecitizens of the Finger Lakes region.“Can’t the federal government do basic math? Anyone who can add or subtract will tell you that if land is taken off the tax rolls, local governments will lose revenue and the region’s property taxpayers will be forced to assume the consequences,” said Senator Nozzolio.
In recognition of his efforts to help New York State farmers grow and create jobs, State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been honored by the New York Farm Bureau with its “Circle of Friends” award. The “Circle of Friends” award acknowledges Senator Nozzolio’s active support of New York agriculture and the New York Farm Bureau.
In recognition of his efforts to support job growth, cut taxes and remove unnecessary regulations that impede job development, State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been named one of the top “Pro Jobs Supporters” in the Senate by the Business Council of New York State as part of the Council’s 2010 Voters’ Guide.
As we approach the anniversary of September 11th and the most horrific terrorist attack on American soil, it is important that we pause to recognize the sacrifices, commitment and dedication of the thousands of Americans who answered the call to duty on that fateful day. Earlier this week, a 70-foot steel column from the World Trade Center was put in place at ground zero in Manhattan.
"Independent businesses are the engines for new job growth in our State. They are integral to rebuilding our economy and creating a better future for our State and Nation,” said Senator Nozzolio. “It is an honor to receive this award and I commend the NFIB and New York State Director of NFIB Mike Elmendorf for their unwavering commitment to the success and growth of our State's job-producing businesses."
In recognition of his efforts to support job growth, lower taxes and economic development in Upstate New York, State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been named one of Unshackle Upstate’s top ten Senators for the 2010 legislative session. Senator Nozzolio also received a perfect grading from Unshackle Upstate on his advocacy for taxpayers during the State budget process. The ranking comes as part of Unshackle Upstate’s “Judgment Day” campaign to identify which State legislators acted in the best interests of Upstate New York's taxpayers and job creators.

A major victory was achieved tonight on behalf of the Upstate New York agriculture industry, when the Farm Labor Bill that would have devastated the Upstate farming industry was rejected by the New York State Senate. This proposal was a clear example of New York City legislators who do not understand the unique needs of our Upstate farms. The effects of this ill-conceived legislation would have been catastrophic to our State’s top industry.
Seneca Falls- New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio blasted Governor Paterson’s veto of legislation that would restore the New York State Legislature's oversight and approval of any agreement or compact with representatives of the Indian Nations in New York State.“Despite warnings from myself and my colleagues, the Democratic Majority that now controls the State Legislature, approved legislation that Governor Paterson included in his last budget extender giving the Governor and all future governors, the power to negotiate a compact or agreement with representatives of New York's Indian Nations without
