It is unconscionable that the Downstate State Senators and State Assemblymen, who control both Houses of the Legislature, left Albany without even trying to get the State budget enacted by the April 1 deadline.
It is unconscionable that after three months of missed deadlines, secret negotiations, huge spending and tax increases and a costly week-to-week extender process, Senate Democrats are now leaving Albany with the State budget still unfinished. Instead, they continue to hold New York State taxpayers hostage by refusing to act on a bill that would pay for all the spending they added to the budget.
Governor Cuomo’s proposed Executive Budget expands on the historic success of our partnership last year to provide further relief from taxes and unfunded mandates, ensure fiscal responsibility and create a pro-job growth environment in our State. It is greatly encouraging that, for the second straight year, the Governor has released an Executive Budget that cuts overall State spending and closes the State’s deficit with NO new or increased taxes or fees.
Continuing his efforts to enact a balanced, on-time State budget for the second year in a row, New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today announced that he has been appointed to serve on the Joint Budget Conference Committees for Public Protection and Transportation. Senator Nozzolio also serves on the Senate Finance Committee, which is responsible for all aspects of the State budget.
