Reminder: Volunteer Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service Workers Eligible for $200 Tax Credit

Volunteer firefighters and emergency medical service (EMS) workers bravely serve our communities every day, putting their lives on the line and protecting the public. The debt and gratitude that we owe these men and women is tremendous.

 Each of our volunteer firefighters and EMS workers is eligible for a $200.00 refundable tax credit from New York State for their service. Even if a volunteer does not pay taxes or have other income, they are still eligible for this credit- they simply file a return using the IT-201 long form and fill out an IT-245.

SENATOR NOZZOLIO TO GOVERNOR: HANDS OFF NEW YORK STATE APPLE ASSOCIATION

Senator Nozzolio Congratulates Special Olympics Medalist Peter Dailey

Senator Nozzolio recently congratulated Special Olympics ice skater Peter Dailey of Webster on winning the bronze medal in the Special Olympics World Winter Games and the gold in the New York State Special Olympics. Peter, who also plays basketball and soccer, met with Senator Nozzolio to discuss ways of supporting and providing opportunity to individuals with disabilities.

New York spends a total of $52.5 billion of taxpayers’ money a year on Medicaid. That means New York State spends over $1 billion a week on Medicaid services. New York’s Medicaid program is larger than the total budgets of forty-three other States.

Senator Nozzolio Demands Removal of IDA Tax

Albany- State Senator Michael Nozzolio today demanded immediate and decisive action from Governor Paterson in order to revoke a devastating tax on New York State’s Industrial Development Agencies. “The IDAs are New York’s job creation incubators,” said Senator Nozzolio, “By taxing their revenues, Albany is effectively destroying jobs.”

The IDA tax, which is due March 31st, was enacted as a part of the 2009-2010 New York State budget. Senator Nozzolio strongly opposed the budget, which created over 100 new taxes and fees, including the IDA tax. Every IDA in New York State will be assessed a 4.7% tax based on their 2008 total revenues.

Fighting To Keep Butler Prison Open

Lyons - Senator Mike Nozzolio recently met with members of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors, Wayne County officials and corrections officers from the Butler Correctional Facility to discuss Governor Paterson's plans to close the Butler prison by January 2011. Members of the group presented Senator Nozzolio with a petition objecting to the closure and signed by nearly 250 Wayne County residents. The petition will be forwarded to Governor Paterson and Brian Fischer, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Corrections.
