Senator Nozzolio Fights for Amendment to Reject Governor's Utiltiy Tax Increase

Albany- State Senator Mike Nozzolio today led his colleagues in the Senate Republican Conference in fighting for an amendment to the State budget he authored and sponsored that would eliminate a dangerous surcharge costing homeowners and businesses over $500 million in increased gas and electric bills.

Senate Republicans Fight to Keep Prisons Open

The New York Senate Republican Conference today introduced an amendment that would to keep three minimum security prisons in Upstate New York operating. Under the budget agreement announced by Governor Paterson, Speaker Silver, and Senator Smith, Camp Gabriels in Franklin County, Mt. McGregor in Saratoga County, and Camp Pharsalia in Chenango County would be closed without the required twelve month notice required by law.

The closure of the prisons would result in the loss of over 300 jobs in Upstate New York. Senate Democrats voted to defeat the amendment.

Senator Nozzolio Honored the Late Salvatore “Sully” Feligno

Geneva – State Senator Mike Nozzolio recently honored the late Salvatore “Sully” Feligno for his service in the U.S. Army during World War II. Senator Nozzolio presented Corporal Feligno's widow Rachel Feligno with the Bronze Star and an updated European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, along with a New York State flag, in recognition of Corporal Feligno’s contributions in the European Theater of Operations during the war.

Waterloo- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently spoke at the annual Seneca County Chamber of Commerce dinner where he presented members of the Sessler family with the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce “Business of the Year” Award in celebration of their business success as well as their dedication and commitment to their local community. Senator Nozzolio also presented the Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award to William “Bill” Velte, Jr., and recognized Molly Mahoney-Thurston as the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.

Senator Nozzolio Secures $6 million for FLCC

Geneva – State Senator Mike Nozzolio recently joined representatives of the Finger Lakes Community College, the City of Geneva and Ontario County to announce the purchase of the former Geneva Middle School building that currently serves as the Community College's satellite campus in Geneva. Senator Nozzolio secured $6 million in New York State funding in last year's budget for the purchase and renovation of the Pulteney Street building.

Gananda- State Senator Mike Nozzolio was invited to speak with students at Gananda High School on the importance of human rights. From Abraham Lincoln and the issue of slavery to Elizabeth Cady Stanton and women's suffrage, each human rights movement required the perseverance, personal commitment and dedication of those involved to change the course of history. Senator Nozzolio was invited to speak to the school by Amanda Moore, a student at Gananda.

Senator Nozzolio and Girl Scout Troop 1410 to Honor Sgt. Robert Reis III of Macedon

Macedon-New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio recently joined members of the Girl Scout Troop 1410 to honor Sgt. Robert Reis III of Macedon. As a part of the Scout's service project, the troop "adopted" Sgt. Reis III to send messages, cards and remembrances throughout his tour of Iraq. Sgt. Reis III and members of his platoon recently met with the members of the Girl Scout to express their gratitude.

Senator Nozzolio Sworn in to Office

New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio was recently sworn in to office by former Lt. Governor Mary Anne Krupsak. Senator Nozzolio was overwhelmingly re-elected in November with over 72% of the vote in his district. Senator Nozzolio thanked the approximately 350 people who attended the ceremony for their support and the honor to represent their needs as a member of the New York State Senate. Senator Nozzolio was sworn in using the same Bible that was used when Lt. Governor Krupsak took her oath of office in 1975.

Waterloo – New York State Senator Michael Nozzolio was recently honored by the New York Beef Producers Association with their “Friend in Government” award in recognition of his strong support of agriculture jobs in the Finger Lakes region. The Association thanked Senator Nozzolio for his role in developing the Animal Health Diagnostic Center at Cornell University.

Senator Nozzolio Visits Webster Montessori School

Webster- State Senator Mike Nozzolio recently visited students at the Webster Montessori School where he commended the class for their efforts to support our American troops serving overseas this holiday season. The students collected nearly 200 pounds of special holiday candy to be sent to the troops. Senator Nozzolio is assisting in the project by agreeing to mail the packages overseas. Geneva - Senator Mike Nozzolio recently participated in the annual "Bowl for the Club" event which benefits the Geneva Boys and Girl's Club. In addition to supporting the Boys and Girls Club, Senator Nozzolio also successfully led the fight to push back Governor Paterson's efforts to impose a tax on bowling in New York State.
