Senator Nozzolio Sponsors Resolution Proclaiming Crime Victims’ Rights Week In New York

Albany—State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R,C-Fayette), Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections Committee, today announced that a resolution he sponsored commemorating this week (April 10-16) as Crime Victims’ Rights Week in the State of New York has been adopted by the State Senate. Crime Victim’s Rights Week is also being observed this week nationally.

Senate Approves Nozzolio Resolution Calling For Veteran Health Care Funds

Albany – State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio announced the New York State Senate has adopted a legislative resolution he is sponsoring calling upon the Federal Government to increase health care funding for America’s veterans. The adoption of the resolution was timely as 1,700 members of the New York State National Guard are mobilizing this week for duty in Afghanistan.

Nozzolio: Time To Stop The Massive Increase In Violent Criminal Parole Releases

Last year, over 250 people attended a summit meeting that I convened to discuss the very complex issue of autism. Many of the parents and providers that attended the meeting traveled hours to participate in the discussion that day. Parents told me about their struggles - not just to meet the needs of their autistic child but the needs of their other children, their spouses, and their professional lives. Divorce rates are high among families with a child diagnosed with autism and issues of child care and after-school care present huge obstacles for these families.

Auburn Memorial Hospital's Maternity Ward To Remain Open

Auburn— In a reversal of the Berger Commission’s recommendation, New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio today announced that the State Department of Health will allow Auburn Memorial Hospital to continue providing maternity/ob-gyn services for the women and families of Cayuga County. AMH is scheduled to receive a state grant of $274,000 for the continued operation of the maternity unit.

Senator Nozzolio Holds Senate Hearing To Examine The Increase In Parole Release Rates For Violent Felons

Albany – New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio convened the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections Committee to conduct a legislative oversight hearing to examine the increase in parole release rates for violent felons in the New York correctional system.

Denise O’Donnell, Director of the Division of Criminal Justice Services; George Alexander, Chairman of the New York State Parole Board; and Brian Fischer, Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services, testified before the Committee to address the increased release rates.

Webster - State Senator Michael Nozzolio today joined officials from the Towns of Webster and Ontario and local youth sports enthusiasts to announce the construction of a new youth athletic facility in the Town of Webster. Senator Nozzolio secured $1.5 million in state funding for the athletic complex to be built off of Basket Road. The new multi-sport venue will be lighted and will be used for youth baseball as well as football, soccer and lacrosse.

We have come a long way in re-building the Depot since the dark days of the early 1990’s when our region received a devastating one-two punch with the closure of the Seneca Army Depot and the Willard Psychiatric Center.For generations these facilities drove the local economy, employing thousands of area residents who enjoyed the steady, secure employment these two government facilities offered. Once they closed, these facilities became an economic anchor around the necks of local residents as we struggled with the loss of more than 1,000 good-paying jobs.
