Albany- State Senate Republicans today blasted Governor Paterson for trying to impose higher surcharges on utility companies that would end up costing consumers of electricity, natural gas and telephone services hundreds of millions of dollars in higher gas, phone and electric bills. The Senators said the latest massive tax hike plan is one of several being discussed by the Governor, and Democratic leaders from New York City during secret budget negotiations.

Newark - Senator Mike Nozzolio recently visited Perkins Elementary School in Newark where he recognized Stephanie Bounds' kindergarten class for their outstanding citizenship. The class collected canned goods and other nonperishable items for the Newark Food Closet. Senator Nozzolio presented each student with a special New York State Certificate acknowledging their efforts. Albany- State Senator Mike Nozzolio recently met with All-State Vocal Group member Katie Germano of Webster following her vocal performance at the New York State School Music Assocation's Legislative Reception. The reception was part of NYSSMA’s “Day on Capitol Hill” in which music teachers and their students met representatives to discuss the importance of supporting music programs in public schools.

Port Gibson – New York State Senator Michael Nozzolio recently recognized Firefighters Ken Rice and Steven Kemp of the Port Gibson Volunteer Fire Department for their bravery and life saving efforts. The firemen received the Firematic Award for 2008.
Senator Nozzolio also recognized Fire Police Captain Larry Scott for receiving a Life Membership Award and over 45 years of service.

Auburn- New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio today presented a report developed by local community leaders containing new economic development initiatives for Cayuga County. The report is entitled Call to Action: A Blueprint for our Region’s Future.
Varick – Continuing his commitment to creating jobs in the Central Finger Lakes and the Hillside Children's Center in Varick, New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) today announced that he has secured a $500,000 State grant for the facility. The funding will be used for infrastructure improvements and renovations needed throughout the campus. Senator Nozzolio played a critical role in recruiting Hillside Children's Center to expand their operations at the former Seneca Army Depot in 2004.
Albany—In recognition of his support of the agriculture industry, New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) has been honored by the New York Farm Bureau with its “Circle of Friends” award. The “Circle of Friends” award acknowledges Senator Nozzolio’s support of New York agriculture and the New York Farm Bureau.

Restructure the Clothing Exemption. Eliminates the sales tax exemption for clothing and footwear priced under $110 and replaces it with two, one-week exemption periods for clothing and footwear priced under $500. Localities will have an option to join the state in offering this exemption.

Waterloo – State Senator Michael Nozzolio joined state and county officials today for the official transfer of a parcel of land in Sampson State Park from the State of New York to Seneca County. The 162-acre plot of land in the Park will be the site of the new Sampson Veterans Cemetery.
Albany - State Senator Michael Nozzolio (R-Fayette) and State Assemblyman Joseph D. Morelle (D-Irondequoit) have announced that their joint legislation to establish a Veterans’ cemetery at the former Sampson Naval and Air Force Base in Seneca County has been approved by their respective houses of the State legislature. The legislation was adopted by the Senate earlier this month and was adopted by the Assembly late Tuesday night, with only two days left in the 2007 legislative session.

Nozzolio today announced that he has secured a $125,000 state investment to create a Owasco Watershed Network Information Exchange that will allow residents to access data and information on Owasco Lake through a single internet portal connecting websites, as well as electronic updates that will be available to anyone concerned with the future of Owasco Lake.
Albany – New York State Senator Michael Nozzolio was joined by over 800 New York State correctional officers at a rally at the State Capitol today to oppose the proposed closure of four upstate prisons. At the rally, Senator Nozzolio announced that this year’s State budget will include funding to keep all four prisons open.
