SENATOR NOZZOLIO CALLS ON RESIDENTS TO SIGN GAS TAX PETITION

State Senator Mike Nozzolio today called on residents to sign his petition to cut the gas tax and ensure that the funds collected from the tax are used properly. While national news stories tout gas for less than $2 per gallon, New Yorkers have seen prices drop but are still paying significantly more than in other states. Currently, New York leads the continental United States when it comes to the price at the pump.

“With gas prices falling across the country, New Yorkers have seen little relief at the pump and have literally watched the roads crumbling beneath them,” said Senator Nozzolio. “My goal is to cut New York’s gas tax and make sure that any funds collected are used to repair our deteriorating infrastructure.”

REMINDER: VOLUNTARY INCOME TAX CHECK-OFF FOR VETERANS REMEMBRANCE AND CEMETERY MAINTENANCE OPERATION FUND

Continuing his strong commitment to our veterans and their families, New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today reminded individuals filing their 2014 New York State income taxes that they will have the opportunity to make a voluntary contribution to support veterans cemeteries in New York State. This fund is an important step in the process to designate specific areas in New York State for a State Veterans cemetery. This voluntary contribution can be made as a deduction from an individual’s tax refund or as an additional monetary donation on New York State tax returns. Contributions are 100% voluntary.

SENATOR NOZZOLIO HOLDS FIRST HEARING ON POLICE SAFETY AND PUBLIC PROTECTION

Senator Michael Nozzolio, Chairman of the New York State Senate Codes Committee, today held the first in a series of public hearings to provide a thorough review of issues affecting the safety of law enforcement, first responders, and the public in New York State. The hearing was jointly convened in New York City by four Senate Committees to address serious concerns raised by the shooting deaths of two NYPD Officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, and Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson, in addition to other recent attacks and hostility directed at law enforcement.

Senator Mike Nozzolio Reappointed Chairman of Senate Budget Sub-Committee for Public Protection

New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio has been reappointed to serve as the Chairman of the New York Senate Budget Sub-Committee for Public Protection.   The Public Protection Budget Sub-Committee is responsible for reviewing all aspects of the criminal justice budget as well as budgets for correctional services, military and naval affairs, the state police, the judiciary and homeland security. Over the course of the next several weeks, the Sub-Committee will be meeting as the Senate prepares its budget proposal for the Fiscal Year 2016.

SENATOR NOZZOLIO LEADS EFFORT TO ELIMINATE GAP ELIMINATION ADJUSTMENT AND REDUCE PROPERTY TAXES IN UPSTATE

Senator Michael Nozzolio announced he has reintroduced his legislation, Senate Bill 512 in the New York State Senate and is leading the effort to end the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) once and for all in New York.

 “Over the last several years, I have heard from hundreds of parents, teachers, school board members, school superintendents and administrators throughout my district, all with the same message; help us put an end to the disastrous Gap Elimination Adjustment,” said Senator Nozzolio.

Looking Ahead: Lowering Taxes, Creating Jobs, and Investing in Infrastructure

Taxes in New York are too high, and as a result, New York is losing people, businesses, and good paying jobs to other states with lower taxes and better economic climates. Although we have taken significant steps to cut taxes and make New York more business friendly, there is still a great deal of work to be done.

We all know someone who has lost his or her job as the result of a business closure or the decision to move the company to a more business friendly state. It's a story that repeats itself time and time again-- and must be rewritten. Families are leaving the State instead of building their futures here.
