In an effort to recognize individuals in his Senate District who make a positive contribution in their communities, New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio will be hosting a “Constituent of the Week” recognition on his Facebook page. Individuals are invited to nominate and submit a photo of a local individual to be recognized for their efforts.
New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today called for immediate action to change current law and policy, in light of recent horrific acts of violence in Rochester, and renewed his commitment to enacting tougher sentencing laws and more severe punishment for violent felons.
Thirteen years ago on September 11th, 2001, we witnessed one of the darkest days in our State and Nation’s history. It was a day that forever changed the way we look at the world.
On the thirteenth anniversary of September 11th, we pause to reflect on how our world was fundamentally altered by that tragedy and its enduring impact over the last decade. As we solemnly honor the memory of those who lost their lives that day, we can also look back with pride on the sacrifices,commitment and dedication of the thousands of Americans who answered the call to duty in the wake of such an enormous tragedy.

Seneca Falls- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently presented a special New York State Resolution, which was formally adopted in the New York State Senate, honoring Peter and Gretchen Koch as the recipients of the 2014 Seneca Falls Community Service Award. The award is given out annually during Convention Days in Seneca Falls. Peter and Gretchen were recognized for their service to the Seneca Falls Historical Society, St. Patrick’s School, the Seneca County Children’s Committee, the Seneca Falls Library, and the House of Concern.

Newark- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently presented Javon McCrea with a special New York State Resolution honoring the announcement of Javon being named the 2014 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year. Javon, a recent graduate of the University at Buffalo (UB), played four years for the UB Men’s Basketball team and was named Captain in both his junior and senior years.. Senator Nozzolio has followed Javon's career from his high school years at Newark High School and recently joined him at his 2014 Basketball Academy camp at the Alex Eligh Community Center in Newark. Javon will begin his professional basketball career in Europe.

Macedon- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently addressed members of the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation to support their efforts to send three veterans to the 5th annual Upland NY Bird Hunt and Couples Retreat in Lyons, New York. The event features world-class outdoor sporting activities as a way to recognize and honor members of our military for their sacrifice and commitment to our Nation. The retreat promotes healing and wellness through camaraderie and a shared passion for the outdoors. The three veterans are all recipients of the Purple Heart and have suffered traumatic injuries while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Lodi- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently met with the Lodi Whittier Library Board of Trustees to discuss their plans for expansion. Senator Nozzolio is a strong supporter of the Library and the important programs and services provided to the local community. Last year, Senator Nozzolio was named a “Top Supporter” by New Yorkers for Better Libraries for his support of legislation to improve public library systems.

Fayette- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently attended the Fayette Volunteer Fire Department's annual summer picnic where he recognized the volunteers for their outstanding public service. Senator Nozzolio also commended the members of the Department for their efforts to pay off the mortgage on their firehouse.

Now that Summer is ending and Fall is quickly approaching, children throughout our area will be heading back to school. As the school year begins, I want to share some important updates regarding our children’s education, property taxes in our region, and the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA).
Throughout my service in the State Senate, I have been a strong supporter of our local libraries. Public libraries are our window to the world, providing programs and services on a wide array of topics to children, adults, and senior citizens, as well as important information on searching for jobs, preparing for job interviews, and developing resumes.

New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio recently secured one of the highest scores in the State Senate in this year’s National Federation of Independent Business’s annual voting record.
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is the nation’s leading small business advocacy association and releases an annual voting record to help New York voters gauge state lawmaker’s support for legislation that is pro-small business.
“Independent businesses are the catalyst for new job growth in our State, particularly in the Greater Finger Lakes region. They are integral to rebuilding our economy and creating a better future for our State and Nation,” said Senator Nozzolio.

These changes will result in establishing a manmade disaster of catastrophic economic impact to Wayne County and the entire northern tier of New York State.
New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today announced that he has successfully secured $3.4 million in State funding to begin a major expansion at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva. This expansion will create local jobs and continue to put our region at the cutting edge of agricultural research and development.
New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio is urging students across his Senate District to have fun reading this summer by participating in the 2014 New York Statewide Summer Reading Program.
"Evidence shows that children who stop reading over summer vacation often fall behind when they return to school in September,” said Senator Nozzolio. "This program is designed to get children to realize the rewards of reading by encouraging them to exercise their imaginations and make reading a daily event this summer," said Senator Nozzolio.
On June 6, 1944, the United States and our allies charged the beaches of France in the largest air, land, sea and military operation the world has ever known. The landing included over 5,000 ships, 11,000 airplanes, and over 150,000 service men. When it was over, more than 4,000 of the Allied Forces were dead.
Citing the need to stop the dramatic increase in the use of heroin and opioid-based illegal drugs, New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio joined today with his colleagues on the New York State Senate Joint Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction to release a report and legislative recommendations to combat the growing heroin and opioid epidemic.
“The Task Force’s roundtable discussion in Auburn clearly demonstrates that the heroin crisis has become an epidemic that is destroying countless lives and families across our State and Nation. No longer is heroin addiction only found in the inner big cities, but is all too prevalent in our suburbs, small cities and rural areas,” said Senator Nozzolio. “The focus of the Task Force is on providing additional resources for the prevention of drug abuse and the treatment of those addicted, while giving law enforcement officials the tools they need to prosecute criminals who are spreading heroin in our local communities.”
In a effort to honor our Nation’s greatest heroes as well as to recognize our region’s historic significance as the birthplace of Memorial Day, State Senator Mike Nozzolio is urging residents of the Finger Lakes area to attend their individual village and town Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 26th, and to also attend a special Memorial Day Ceremony that is being held at the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus, New York at 2:00 PM.
