Growing up in a working class family with mom, dad, and my two brothers, we didn’t have the best of everything. We did, however, learn very early how to stretch a dollar and the value of hard work and sacrifice. We never felt deprived. When times were tough, my parents, especially my mother, who was the money manager of the family, taught us invaluable and common sense lessons about ways to save money.

New York State could take a lesson from my mother. Times are tough in New York State and it's time to use common sense when it comes to state spending.

The economic fallout in Greece should be a wake-up call to every citizen in our Nation. If New York State and the United States governments don’t get spending under control now, then like Greece, we may be facing economic insolvency before too long.

Albany- State Senator Michael Nozzolio today demanded immediate and decisive action from Governor Paterson in order to revoke a devastating tax on New York State’s Industrial Development Agencies. “The IDAs are New York’s job creation incubators,” said Senator Nozzolio, “By taxing their revenues, Albany is effectively destroying jobs.”

Albany- Senator Nozzolio strongly criticized Governor Paterson’s proposal to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in tax refunds to New York State taxpayers.

State Senator Mike Nozzolio today joined a number of his New York State Senate Colleagues in demanding President Barack Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, and the United States Congress to move the 9/11 terrorist trials out of New York City.

New York State is currently in the midst of its worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Double digit unemployment, unbearable taxes and declining business investment have been driving residents out of New York State in record numbers. Upstate New York has lost more residents than any other region in the United States and the exodus of our young people has been alarming.

Last April, when Governor David Paterson and the New York City-controlled legislature adopted a New York State budget that carried a $13 billion increase in spending, I warned the Governor and his colleagues that there would be dire consequences for their actions.
