Queens, NY – Senator Michael Gianaris celebrates Earth Day on April 22 by continuing his advocacy for stronger environmental laws to better protect and conserve our environment.

Senator Gianaris is a longtime leader in the effort to clean our environment. Recently, he introduced a series of legislative proposals to ensure better environmental policies in New York State.

“Earth Day serves as an important reminder of our responsibility to the planet,” Senator Gianaris said. “We cannot continue to take a reactive approach to environmental protection. My proposals would take proactive steps to safeguard our environment and prevent further damage.”

Senator Gianaris Wants More Trees For Sunnyside And Woodside

Queens, NY – As part of Senator Michael Gianaris’ continued commitment to improving western Queens’ quality of life, he sent a letter to Mayor Bloomberg requesting the planting of trees along various avenues in Sunnyside and Woodside. Senator Gianaris is requesting trees be planted along Queens Boulevard, 48th Avenue, 47th Avenue and 43rd Avenues between 38th Street and 48th Street.

“New trees would beautify our neighborhood and help rid the air of dangerous pollutants, allowing our community to breathe a little easier,” stated Senator Gianaris. "I am hopeful the Mayor will move swiftly to give Sunnyside and Woodside the benefits that scores of new trees would provide."

Gianaris pushes his clean-air bill

Queens Campaigner wrote about how Senator Gianaris commemorated Earth Day this year.

In celebration of Earth Day last week, state Sen. Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria) touted the pro-environment legislation he has recently introduced that would reduce emissions and crack down on polluters.

“It’s been a priority of mine from the first day I was elected to the [state] Assembly,” Gianaris said.

The senator said that since his district is adjacent to the Con Edison Astoria Complex, on 20th Avenue between Shore Boulevard and 31st Street in Astoria and contains the Ravenswood Power Plant in Astoria, air quality has always been a major concern.

Gianaris calls for more trees in Sunnyside/Woodside

Sunnyside Post wrote about Senator Gianaris' request for more trees to be planted in Sunnyside and Woodside.

Sunnyside and Woodside might be getting a little more greener.

State Sen. Michael Gianaris has called on Mayor Michael Bloomberg to plant additional trees on 48th Ave., 47th Ave., Queens Blvd and 43rd Ave.

“It’s rare to have such long stretches without trees,” Gianaris said Tuesday, as he looked down 48th Ave. from 47th Street. “The city has done a good job in planting trees throughout the city, but I think there have been some parts of Sunnyside (and Woodside) that have been overlooked.”

Students Encouraged To Participate In Earth Day Competition

The Queens Gazette posted Senator Gianaris' announcement of the 2012 Earth Day Competition, which he encourages all students in his Western Queens district to participate in.

In celebration of Earth Day, state Senator Michael Gianaris is inviting elementary school students in his Western Queens district to participate in the Earth Day Competition 2012. This poster contest gives children the opportunity to illustrate the importance of improving the environment.

 

The theme for this year’s Earth Day contest is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.
