GIANARIS, NOLAN, VAN BRAMER ANNOUNCE COMPLETION OF MTA NOISE SILENCER PROJECT IN LONG ISLAND CITY

Queens, NY – Due to the efforts of Senator Michael Gianaris, Assemblymember Cathy Nolan, and Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer, sound abatement equipment for the 7 train ventilator plant in Hunter’s Point has successfully been installed. The elected officials’ secured funding for the equipment last year after complaints of ear-splitting sounds coming from the MTA East River ventilator, located at 50th Avenue between 5th Street and Center Street.

NYC Transit President, Thomas Prendergast, sent a letter to the three elected officials in October indicating that the equipment’s installation was complete and area noise levels reduced.

MTA LIC Noise Reducer Complete

The Queens Gazette reported on the recent installment ofsound abatement equipment for the No. 7 train ventilator plant in Hunters Point. Senator Gianaris, Assemblymember Cathy Nolan and Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer worked together to resond to the noise complaints from the MTA East River ventilator. The community can now say goodbye to restless nights and headaches.

Bring Back the W Train, Astoria Pol Says

DNA Info reports that Senator Gianaris has called on the MTA to restore the W train and QM22 express bus to service.

After massive subway and bus service cuts two years ago, Western Queens residents have been forced to deal with fewer transit options, making their commutes to work longer and more inconvenient, state Sen. Michael Gianaris says.

Astoria Sen. asks for W train revival

An article by the Queens Chronicle talks about Senator Gianaris' effort to bring the W train and QM22 express bus back to Queens.

State Sen. Mike Gianaris (D-Astoria) sent a letter to Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman Joe Lhota on Monday asking for the reinstatement of the W subway line and the QM22 express bus.

“My position is simple, we all sacrificed when the MTA said they had no money, but now they should be restored fairly between all five boroughs,” Gianaris said.

 

The MTA would not comment on whether the restoration of these two lines are being looked into.

MTA announces partial restoration of Q79 bus

The NY Daily News reports on the MTA's announcement to restore transportation services in the Bronx and Brooklyn, which has lead Senator Gianaris to request the reinstatement of services to Queens as well.

Days after the MTA announced plans to expand service in Brooklyn and the Bronx, eastern Queens got some good news of its own on Thursday.

 

Agency officials said it will partially restore service along the former Q79 bus route by re-routing every other Q36 bus to run along the old Q79 route from Little Neck to Floral Park.

Speaking at a rally I held with local leaders this morning calling on the MTA to restore the W subway line and QM22 express bus.

We're happy the B24 was fully restored, however, western Queens still isn't getting it's fair share of the benefits of the MTA.

B24 weekend bus service begins again Jan. 6

Τhe efforts of Senator Gianaris concerning restoration of the weekend service of B24, which connects Brooklyn and Queens, were finally paid off. As from January 6th, the B24 line will run on Saturdays and Sundays, from Williamsburg to Greenpoint, from 5 am to 12:41 am.

The B24 weekend bus service–which connects Brooklyn and Queens (via Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Sunnyside)–has been restored after more than 2 ½ years of being down

The restoration of “the B24’s weekend service is a step in the right direction,” Gianaris said. However, “I will continue to push the MTA to reinstate all western Queens mass transit cuts,” he added.

Weekend Bus Service Returns to B24 Line in Queens, Brooklyn

DNAinfo.com wrote about the restoration of the weekend service of the B24, making it easier for Sunnyside commuters to travel around their neighboorhood

The B24 bus will start running on weekends again starting this Sunday for the first time in nearly two years, according to an announcement from Queens state Sen. Michael Gianaris.
