Monthly Column: New York is one step closer to on-time budget for second year in a row

New York State is one step closer to having a budget passed on schedule for a second year in a row, after the State Senate and State Assembly passed separate one-house budget resolutions last week.

Last year, I partnered with Governor Cuomo and the State Assembly to pass a State Budget which reduced spending for the first time in 15 years.  It is imperative that the State Legislature continue to make good on the progress from last year.

Statement on 2012-13 State Budget

Albany, N.Y. – The New York State Senate has passed the 2012-2013 State Budget.  State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer has issued the following statement:

“Today, for the second time since 1983, the State Senate has passed the State Budget ahead of the April 1st deadline.  The 2012-2013 State Budget is a fiscally responsible plan that closes a budget deficit by cutting spending and without raising taxes.  For the second time in 15 years, and for the second consecutive year, overall spending has been reduced.  The budget shrinks the size of State government once again by eliminating 25 repetitive, inactive boards and commissions and consolidating various departments.

Monthly Column: 2012 State Budget passes ahead of schedule

Working together in a bi-partisan fashion with Governor Cuomo, I am pleased to report that the 2012-2013 State Budget has passed ahead of schedule for the second consecutive year.  The recently adopted budget is a fiscally responsible plan that closes a $2 billion deficit by cutting spending without raising taxes.  It is a plan that will help to create thousands of jobs and strengthen our economy. 

For the second year in a row, overall spending has been reduced.  In an effort to shrink the size of State government, the budget plan eliminates 25 repetitive, inactive boards and commissions, consolidates various departments, and implements efficiencies to reduce government expenditures.
