Urges OPWDD to review its placement procedures

 

State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer has expressed concerns of Newstead residents with the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) Acting Commissioner Laurie Kelley.

 

In a letter, Senator Ranzenhofer conveyed his opposition to the placement of registered sex offenders in group homes.

Monthly Column: Budget review process in full swing

In mid-January, Governor Cuomo unveiled his Executive Budget proposal for 2014-2015. Now, the budget review and approval process is in full swing.

 

Many of the tax relief proposals outlined in the State of the State address were outlined in greater detail, including a two-year freeze on property taxes, lowering business taxes, eliminating taxes for Upstate manufacturers, and accelerating the phase-out of the utility tax.  As I mentioned in my column last month, these proposals may have the potential to continue chipping away at New York’s high tax burden.  However, closer examination is required.

Public Assistance Integrity Act passes State Senate

State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer has announced today that the Public Assistance Integrity Act has passed the State Senate earlier this week by a vote of 53 to 4.

 

“I am pleased to announce that the Public Assistance Integrity Act has passed the State Senate with almost unanimous support,” said Ranzenhofer.  “Unfortunately, until the State Assembly takes final action on this fraud prevention measure, there is no law in New York State to prohibit Electronic Benefit Transfer cards from being abused and misused.”
