Senator Breslin: Lauren’s Law Passes the Senate / Bill Will Increase Likelihood of Life Saving Organ Donations

(Albany, NY) New York is one step closer to getting a boost in the number of life saving organ donors listed on the New York State Organ and Tissue Registry, Senator Neil D. Breslin (D-Delmar) has announced. The State Senate has passed Lauren’s Law, legislation (S.3885) making it mandatory for individuals who apply for a New York State Drivers License to complete the section of the application as it pertains to the organ donor registry.

Often overlooked now, this legislation requires applicants to check the box for either “yes” or “not at this time” under the organ donor registry section of the application. If an applicant forgets, which is often the case, a clerk will remind them of the need to complete that section of their application.

(Albany, NY) Senator Neil D. Breslin (D-Delmar) recognizes April as Autism Awareness Month and encourages New Yorkers to learn more about autism and its effects on children and their families, as well as what can be done to help the cause.

Since the 1970s, April has been designated by the National Autism Society as National Autism Awareness Month in order to highlight the growing need for concern and awareness about autism. Only recently, however, has autism become a national focus as rates have skyrocketed.

Kidney diseases are silent killers, many patients do not show any symptoms until they reach kidney failure. Senator Breslin encourages all of his constituents to get tested and spread the word about the importance of getting tested for kidney disease. This year, World Kidney Day focuses on Diabetes. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of kidney diseases worldwide.  Major causes of kidney damage include hypertension, obesity, and pollution. Many people ignore the severity of these conditions which has led to an increase in the prevalence of kidney disorders.

Senator Breslin: Parents, Kids Remember to Get Immunized

August 11, 2010(Albany, NY)- In anticipation of National Immunization Awareness Month this August, Senator Breslin (D- Delmar) urged parents to schedule appointments for themselves and their children to protect against dangerous viruses. National Immunization Awareness Month is an annual observance to emphasize the importance of immunizations across all stages of life, from infants to the elderly.  Since children are especially vulnerable to infection, most vaccines are given during the first five to six years of life.  Other immunizations are recommended during adolescent or adult years, and, for certain vaccines, booster immunizations are recommended throughout life.

Senator Breslin: Does the State Owe You Money?

Thursday July 22, 2010(Albany, NY) Senator Neil D. Breslin (D-Delmar) announced today that New Yorkers are owed hundreds of millions in unclaimed funds from the State, and can get any money they are owed simply by calling the state Comptroller’s office or going online.“The Comptroller has made it easy for New Yorkers to find out if the state owes them money,” said Senator Breslin. “This money does not belong to the state and I urge all New Yorkers to take a minute of their time to find out if they have money coming to them.” The Comptroller has more than 25 million outstanding accounts, which may be worth as little as a few dollars to several thousand.
