Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th SD) recently joined Assemblyman Phil Boyle (8th AD), Assemblyman Joseph Saladino (12th AD), and NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) Commissioner Courtney Burke at the Long Island Family Support Services Advisory Council’s 20th Annual Legislative Breakfast. Attendees included consumers with developmental disabilities, family members, advocates and staff of agencies that deliver services in the disabilities field. The breakfast took place at the Long Island Hilton Hotel on October 19, 2012.
Senator Owen H. Johnson joined Lorraine Pace, Founding President of Breast Cancer Help, Inc. at the 5th Annual Bill Evans Celebrity Golf Outing on September 27, 2012. Meteorologist Bill Evans Sponsored the fundraising event at Island Hills Golf Club in Sayville. All proceeds went to benefit Breast Cancer Help, Inc. and their Long Island Cancer Help and Wellness Center.
Senator Owen H. Johnson welcomed St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School alumni, students and parents who joined together at Beach Cleanup 2012. The group participated in Senator Johnson’s Beach Cleanup on September 15, 2012 at Robert Moses State Park, helping to clean up debris from the beach as part of the Annual Intercoastal Clean Up Day.
Like so many New Yorkers, I clearly remember where I was on the morning of September 11th, 2001.
And while more than a decade has now passed, the memory of that tragic day is still fresh in our minds. The sorrow and the pain that we felt are still with us.
More than 3,000 people died on September 11th, many of whom lived within my Senate district and in the districts of my neighboring Senate colleagues. I will never forget the strength and courage of the families of those who perished. Their loss is felt every day, but never more so than on this day.

Senator Owen H. Johnson and Assemblyman Phil Boyle joined with other elected officials and members of the community to cheer on the brave men and women who participated in the Wounded Warrior Soldier Ride through Babylon on July 20th. The event raised money and awareness for members of our military who have been wounded in combat. The Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride is a rehabilitative cycling program for injured servicemen and women, giving them the opportunity to reinvigorate their bodies and showing them how much life still has to offer.

In 1969, the Jets and Mets overcame improbable odds to capture a professional championship. The NFL’s New York Giants won championships in 2007 and 2011 after winning multiple games on the road as double-digit underdogs. In 1980 when New York hosted the Winter Olympics, our great state laid ground to the US Hockey Team’s “Miracle on Ice” when we beat a Soviet team who many thought was the best in the world.

SENATE COMPLETES SECOND CONSECUTIVE EARLY PASSAGE OF STATE BUDGET2012-13 State Budget Reduces Spending, Does Not Raise Taxes, Creates Jobs For the second consecutive year, the New York State Senate has completed an early passage of the state budget. The 2012-13 state budget achieves the Senate Republicans’ goals of reducing state spending, not raising taxes and creating new private sector jobs. The new state fiscal year begins April 1st.
The Senate Transportation Committee held a hearing on February 13, 2012 to review the National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB) recent report on distracted driving and examine what steps New York State can take to make roads safer and protect people from distracted driving crashes.

The Long Island Pharmacists Society, Inc. invited Long Island legislators to the Arthur Perlin Memorial Breakfast to thank them for their support in addressing the problems of prescribed medicines. Of major concern to the organization is the overprescribing of controlled drugs and their illicit use on the streets.
