Over 100 friends joined at the Rainbow Senior Citizen Center for the 2009 Woman of Distinction Award presentation to Barbara Poldino. The New York State Senate's 'Woman of Distinction' program provides a special opportunity to honor women for their achievements and to thank them for the special pride they bring to our communities.
Michael J. Rizzo, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources was honored by New York Senate Proclamation at a recent West Babylon School District Board Meeting. Senator Owen H. Johnson, a long time friend, presented the Proclamation in recognition of Michael's 36 years of service to the West Babylon School District. Members of the School Board and District Administrators were present to acknowledge his outstanding career and wish him well on his December 18th retirement.
Senator Owen H. Johnson joined many friends at a National Kidney Registry fundraiser at Chateau La Mer in Lindenhurst on 7-29-09. Angie Carpenter, Suffolk County Treasurer, presented Jacquelyn Brucia with a certificate acknowledging her efforts in organizing the event which raised thousands of dollars. The Order Sons of Italy in America, Constantino Brumidi Lodge No. 2211 in Deer Park celebrated their 40th Anniversary with a dinner/dance at Chateau Le Mer on October 29, 2009. Senator Owen H. Johnson, Town of Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone and Town Clerk Carol Quirk were honored for their long-time support of the lodge.

Senator Owen H. Johnson's Annual Beach Cleanup Day at Robert Moses State Park on September 20, 2009 was a huge success! Over 480 volunteers removed 1700 pounds of debris from the shoreline.
The data collected at the Beach Cleanup was compiled by the American Littoral Society and sent to the Ocean Conservancy in Washington D.C. where it was analyzed and compared with data from around the world. The information is ultimately used to develop national and international programs to control debris.
