Senator Johnson Greets Suffolk County Student Musicians

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, is pictured greeting the student musicians from throughout Suffolk County who are members of the elite All-County Instrumental and Vocal Jazz Ensembles. The students traveled to Albany to perform in conjunction with Music in Our Schools Month which is held annually during the month of March. Throughout the month, talented student performers from all across the state travel to Albany to perform for legislators and discuss pertinent issues relating to music education.

Senator Johnson Joins In LI Education And Taxpayer Rally

State Senator Owen H. Johnson joined more than 1,500 concerned residents and taxpayers from all across Long Island in opposition to Governor Spitzer’s proposed cuts to Long Island school districts at an Education and Taxpayer Rally held last Saturday in Farmingdale. Taxpayers, educators, students, and business and labor leaders partnered with Johnson and the entire Long Island Senate Majority Delegation to call upon Governor Spitzer to restore the funding he cut to Long Island schools in his proposed education budget.

Senator Johnson Visits Children's Centers New Home In Bay Shore

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently met with officials of the Adults and Children With Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc.’s (ACLD) Kramer Learning Center at the grounds of their soon-to-be new facility on Greenwood Road in Bay Shore. The new facility -- "The Children’s Center for Learning and Recreation at Bay Shore" will be located on the grounds of the former Mark Country Day School property.

Senator Johnson Pledges To Help Outreach Center For The Poor Devastated By Fire

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently paid a visit to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Roman Catholic Church in Wyandanch to offer his support and assess the damage that was caused to church property by an accidental fire on December 30th. The Senator is pictured with Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church Pastor, the Reverend Bill Brisotti and Noelle Campbell. the Executive Director of the Gerald J. Ryan Outreach Center in front of one of the trailers that was destroyed by the fire.

Senator Johnson Receives American Patriot Award

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, was recently presented with the American Patriot Award by the American Legion Post #365 in Bay Shore. The plaque that the Legionnaires presented to Senator Johnson thanked the Senator for his many years of service as a New York State Senator, U.S. Marine and Outstanding Citizen.

Senator Johnson Commends Friends Of Edgewood Preserve For Long Island Avenue "Adopt A Spot"

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, was recently on hand to commend and congratulate the Friends of the Edgewood Preserve for adopting a one-half mile stretch of Long Island Avenue (north side, along the Edgewood Preserve perimeter). The group adopted the spot in an attempt to reduce litter and help to beautify the stretch of road.

Senator Johnson Secures Grant For Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently paid a visit to the offices of the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (SCCADV) where he had the opportunity to meet with Executive Director Joanne Sanders and Staff Attorney Adam Small and discuss the legal services programs that the Coalition provides to victims of domestic violence. Senator Johnson was able to secure a state grant of $20,000 to support the coalition’s legal services programs.

Senator Johnson On Hand For Opening Of Anthony Casamento Exhibit

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon) was recently on hand for the Anthony Casamento Medal of Honor Exhibit Opening at the West Islip Public Library. The exhibit features Corporal Casamento’s Medal of Honor and other related memorabilia thanks to the generosity of his daughter, Mary Casamento of California. Ms. Casamento and other members of her family traveled to West Islip to be at the ceremony commemorating the opening of the exhibit.

Senator Johnson Helps Break Ground At Advanced Research And Technology Center

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, joined with Stony Brook University President Dr. Shirley Strum Kenny; National Grid Executive Director and Deputy Chairman Robert Catell; Senators John Flanagan and Kenneth Lavalle and others, in breaking ground at the new Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center at Stony Brook University. The new Center was made possible in part through a state grant for $35 million that was secured by Senator Johnson and the Long Island Senate delegation.

Senator Johnson On Hand For Dedication Of Tanner Park Boardwalk

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, was on hand for the dedication ceremony of the Town of Babylon’s Tanner Park Boardwalk in Copiague. Senator Johnson secured $1.5 million for the completion of the boardwalk and promenade and the construction of a new beach pavillion. Also honored by the Town of Babylon at the event was former Town of Babylon resident, the late Wanda Tilson, who frequented the Tanner Park Senior Citizen Center and who generously contributed funding for the Senior Center.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently paid a visit to the offices of the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition (BBCC) where he had the chance to view the new displays that the Coalition unveiled to help promote their services. Senator Johnson this year secured $50,000 in funding for the BBCC’s patient services and educational programs, as well as their community outreach efforts. Part of this funding was used to purchase these displays.

Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, presented Corinne DiSomma of Babylon --Town of Babylon receiver of Taxes -- with the 2007 New York State Woman of Distinction award at a special ceremony held at the State Legislative Office Building this week. Corinne, a lifelong resident of Babylon, was one of more than 40 women from all across the state who were honored with the prestigious award that recognizes women whose work has enriched the quality of life in their communities.

Senator Johnson Commends The Academy Of St. Joseph On Their 150th Birthday

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon) and State Senator Caesar Trunzo (3rd Senate District) commended the Academy of St. Joseph in Brentwood on reaching their 150th birthday. The private Roman Catholic Academy operates a co-ed elementary and middle school as well as the only all-girls high school in Suffolk County. Their student body is gathered from communities throughout Suffolk County as close as Brentwood and as far away as Hampton Bays.

Senators Johnson And Fushillo Voice Opposition To South Shore Windmill Project

Senator Owen H. Johnson and Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. today expressed opposition to Long Island Power Authority’s (LIPA) proposed windmill farm off the South Shore of Long Island because of skyrocketing costs that potentially could be passed on to the ratepayers. Senator Johnson and Senator Fuschillo, who made the announcement at a news conference at Jones Beach, praised LIPA for seeking alternative energy sources for Long Island, but added that such projects must be more cost effective.

Senator Johnson Announces Grant For Babylon Public Library

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently announced that the has secured a $50,000 state grant for the Babylon Public Library to upgrade the library’s computer servers, public computers, broadband width and wireless capabilities.
