Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently presented Bishop Michael Talbert, Pastor of the First Church of Wyandanch Ministries, with a special Citation in recognition of his 50th birthday and his ongoing dedication to the community. A celebration ceremony was thereafter held by members of his congregation at the Chateau La Mer in Lindenhurst.

Child Safety Advocates Honor Senator Johnson

State Capitol, Albany, New York, May 2, 2006 -- State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, received special recognition at a thank you ceremony held by Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS), for securing a $20,000 state grant to help support their "Steer Clear of Bullies Program." The Bully Prevention program is one of many offered by CAPS, that is designed to prevent bullying in schools by teaching children different strategies to avoid harmful situations.

Senator Johnson Congratulates Lindenhurst State Bowling Champs

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, is shown speaking with one of Lindenhurst High School’s Champion Bowlers following a special ceremony at the high school where the Senator presented the team with a New York State Senate Resolution honoring them for capturing the state title. Lindenhurst’s Varsity team competed in Syracuse in March where they beat Niagara Falls High School and won the state championship. This is the first time in history that the bowling team has won the state title.

Senator Johnson Announces $100,000 Grant For Suffolk County Energy Efficiency Project

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, today announced that Suffolk County has received a $100,000 grant to help finance a $1.4 million energy-efficiency project at the Bergen Point Wastewater Treatment Facility located in West Babylon.

"The Bergen Point project is a good example of government practicing what it preaches when it encourages energy conservation. The energy-saving measures, once implemented, will cut the facility’s energy bills and save Suffolk county taxpayers $145,000 annually," said Senator Johnson.

Johnson/Senate Pass "Suzanne's Law" To Make Schools Safer

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, announced that legislation he is cosponsoring in the Senate to increase criminal penalties for crimes committed on school grounds passed the Senate this week.

The bill, S. 3226, also known as "Suzanne’s Law, was passed on the eighth anniversary of the disappearance of University at Albany student Suzanne Lyall of Saratoga County who the bill is named after.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, presents a New York State Legislative Resolution to John Wevers --Director of the Copiague High School Band -- commending the Band on the occasion of their capturing the 2005 New York State LS 2 Championship. During the 2005 competition season, the Copiague High School Band went undefeated against all Long Island bands, won the New York State Field Band Conference in Syracuse, and earned the highest USSBA Championship score of all bands from New York State.
