Senator Johnson Joins In LI Education And Taxpayer Rally

State Senator Owen H. Johnson joined more than 1,500 concerned residents and taxpayers from all across Long Island in opposition to Governor Spitzer’s proposed cuts to Long Island school districts at an Education and Taxpayer Rally held last Saturday in Farmingdale. Taxpayers, educators, students, and business and labor leaders partnered with Johnson and the entire Long Island Senate Majority Delegation to call upon Governor Spitzer to restore the funding he cut to Long Island schools in his proposed education budget.

Michael J. Rizzo Receives Senate Proclamation Honoring Career

Michael J. Rizzo, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources was honored by New York Senate Proclamation at a recent West Babylon School District Board Meeting.  Senator Owen H. Johnson, a long time friend, presented the Proclamation in recognition of Michael's 36 years of service to the West Babylon School District.  Members of the School Board and District Administrators were present to acknowledge his outstanding career and wish him well on his December 18th retirement.

Senator Owen H. Johnson congratulated Suffolk County High School students who performed with the All-State Instrumental and Vocal Jazz Ensembles in Albany on March 1, 2010.  Both groups performed at a New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) reception honoring the late Joseph R. Sugar, a tireless advocate for the advancement of music education in our schools.

Johnson welcomed talented musicians from several high schools across Suffolk County at the Empire State Plaza in Albany on March 2, 2010.   The students  performed with the Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association’s (SCMEA) All-County Instrumental and Vocal Ensembles.  The two groups performed as part of “Music in Our Schools Month” sponsored by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA).

Marta and Monika Sulima, seniors at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School have made District history by becoming the first twins ever to earn the recognition of valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively.  They were among the top 10 students introduced at the February 27th Copiague Public Schools Legislative Breakfast by High School Principal Albert J. Voorneveld, Jr.
