Senator Owen Johnson welcomes Half Hollow Hills Students to the State Capitol

Half Hollow Hills High School students John Quiwa, Gabriella DiFatta, and Nicole Lombardo recently met with Senator Owen Johnson in his Albany office.  The students are members of the high school’s legislative committee and traveled to the State Capitol to discuss issues including education and finance.

Senator Owen Johnson Congratulates SUNY’s Best of the Best!

Senator Owen Johnson congratulates eight SUNY students from the 4th Senate District who received the prestigious New York Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.  The following eight students, from a total of 220 students statewide, received an overall GPA of 3.8 and have records of significant contributions to their campus communities.

Half Hollow High School Students Visit Albany!

Senator Owen H. Johnson Congratulates Three High Schools in the 4th Senate District

Senator Owen H. Johnson congratulates three high schools in the 4th Senate District that were recognized nationally by the College Board for increasing access to Advanced Placement (AP) courses and maintaining or improving the rate at which students score well on demanding AP tests.    “I’d like to congratulate three schools in my district: Copiague High School; Sayville High School; and West Islip High School for being recognized by the College Board and for being placed on their National Advanced Placement Achievement List,” Senator Johnson said.

Connetquot Elementary School Chorus Performs at the State Capitol.

Senator Owen H. Johnson and Assemblyman Phil Boyle welcomed Director Eileen Egbert and talented vocalists from the Connetquot Elementary School Chorus to the State Capitol on March 30, 2011.  The group performed as part of “Music In Our Schools Month” at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.  During the month of March, The New York State School Music Association along with the Music Educators’ National Conference celebrated their 39th annual “Music In Our Schools Month,” with performances by school bands, orchestras, choruses and jazz ensembles from across the state.

Mary Anderson, Richard DiStefano and Robert DiStefano Honored At the 2011 Sixth Annual PAWS Gala

Senator Owen H. Johnson joined Partners Advancing West Islip Students (PAWS) in applauding three honorees at the 2011 Sixth Annual PAWS Gala. The event took place at The Venetian Yacht Club in Babylon on April 29, 2011.Mary Anderson was the recipient of the 2011 Outstanding Educator of the Year Award.  She is the Principal of the Manetuck Elementary School and this fall will celebrate her 40th anniversary with the West Islip School District.Brothers Richard DiStefano and Robert DiStefano were presented with the 2011 Outstanding Community Members of the Year Award. The owners of West Islip Wines & Liquors were honored for their exceptional participation and  contribution to the betterment of the community.
