Jobs Express Has Been Visited Over 200,000 Times In First Four Weeks Job Fairs Announced to Fill 100 Positions at General ElectricGovernor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that "Jobs Express," the state's new website designed to help New Yorkers who are seeking employment, now lists 52,000 job openings and has introduced improved search tools. In the past four weeks since the launch of Jobs Express, the website has been visited over 200,000 times and has listed an additional 10,000 job openings.

Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of The Fair Harbor Fire District

Senator Owen H. Johnson presented a New York Senate Proclamation to Fair Harbor Fire Chief Scott Cherveney to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Fair Harbor Fire District and to honor the past and present firefighting members for 80 years of fire protection to the citizens of Fair Harbor and its surrounding communities.  The presentation took place at the Officers’ Installation Dinner Dance at The Snapper Inn in Oakdale on Saturday, October 1, 2011.

Fair Harbor Fire District was established in 1931 and is responsible for providing fire and EMS protection in Fair Harbor.  Dunewood and Lonelyville have their own Fire Districts which contribute to the Fair Harbor Fire District in return for fire and EMS protection service.

The Fair Harbor Fire District covers a three square mile response area, serving a summer population of 2,500 and includes 600 private homes, three businesses, three docks and one mile of shoreline.  The district firehouse is located in the center of the Fair Harbor commercial district and houses its 14 emergency response vehicles.

Isabella Streffacio, a 1st grader at Harding Avenue Elementary School in Lindenhurst, was presented with a Summer Reading Certificate by Senator Owen H. Johnson upon her completion of the New York State Senate Summer Reading Program.   Senator Johnson met with Isabella and other Summer Reading Program participants at Sorto’s Top Bun in Lindenhurst on Thursday, October 13, 2011 for a special luncheon to celebrate their achievements.

The Business Council of New York State, Inc. released its 2011 Voters’ Guide, which measures New York State legislators' “commitment to improving the state's economic climate and performance by scoring their support for key business legislation during the 2011 session.”Senator Owen H. Johnson, R-Babylon, received the Business Council’s highest score.“I am pleased to learn that The Business Council of New York State approves of our strategy in the Republican Senate Majority to improve the business climate in New York State,” Senator Johnson said.  “We will continue to work toward our goals of meaningful mandate relief and job creation during the 2012 Legislative Session.”

FEMA Extends New York Deadlines to Register for Disaster Assistance

ALBANY, N.Y. – At the request of New York state, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the registration deadline for anyone who suffered damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee this summer.Those affected by either storm now have until Dec. 15 to register for federal disaster assistance.“We've extended the registration deadline for people who – for whatever reason – have not had the opportunity to register for assistance,” said FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Philip E. Parr. “The goal is to ensure all eligible Irene and Lee survivors have the chance to seek assistance.”

GOVERNOR CUOMO SIGNS LAW TO EXPAND HEALTH CARE COVERAGE FOR TREATMENT OF AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

New Law Requires Coverage of Autism Disorder by Health Insurance ProvidersGovernor Andrew M. Cuomo today signed a law that will require health insurance providers to offer coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder. The legislation will help families afford the expensive health care costs related to treating loved ones with autistic disorders. Under the new law, health insurance companies will be required to provide coverage for treatment of autism spectrum disorders, though coverage may be subject to deductibles, co-pays, and coinsurance consistent with those imposed on other benefits.

Suffolk County Foreclosure Forum Offered by the Suffolk County Bar Association

Suffolk residents are invited to a free Foreclosure Forum on Oct. 27, 2011 offered by the Suffolk County Bar Association.  The forum will  cover such topics as the homeowner's rights, the foreclosure process and what to do when served with a legal summons.  The Suffolk County Bar Association wants to reach out to homeowners in the early stages of delinquency, before they go to the mandated court settlement conference with the lender.  The seminar is open to Suffolk homeowners who are not already in the Suffolk County Bar Association's foreclosure help program and who are not due to go to court until after Oct. 27th.  The seminar will be from 1:00 to 2:30PM October 27, 2011 at 560 Wheeler Rd.
