Paying tribute to a local fallen hero at the Annual Deputy Chief Ray Downey, Forever Running Memorial 5K Run in Deer Park.

The 9th Annual Deputy Chief Ray Downey, Forever Running Memorial 5K Run/Walk in Deer Park  raised nearly $25,000 this year.  Five thousand people came out to pay tribute to a local hero.

“I’m proud to pay tribute to Deputy Chief Raymond Downey and all of the heroes who lost their lives on September 11, 2001,” Senator Owen H. Johnson said.  “Together we can honor them for their bravery and courage by coming out to raise money for our community.”

Senator Owen H. Johnson joined state and local officials and community members to unveil the newly renovated Bay Shore Long Island Rail Road Station.

Senator Owen H. Johnson joined state and local officials and community members recently to unveil the newly renovated Bay Shore Long Island Rail Road Station, marking the completion of the five year project.  New features to the station include a modern covered pedestrian overpass between the eastbound and westbound platforms, new platform lighting, new windows and new paint. 

Residents and members of the community approached Senator Owen Johnson five years ago to express concerns over potential safety issues for the 1600 daily passengers.  Senator Johnson was instrumental in securing $3.6 million for the project.  Funding came from the Metropolitan Transit Authority's capital improvement budget.

Town of Babylon History Museum Unveiled

Senator Owen H. Johnson joined Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino and Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone, among many others, for the unveiling of the Town of Babylon History Museum at the newly restored Old Town Hall on June 11, 2010. 

The brand new Town of Babylon History Museum includes exhibits celebrating the 100th anniversary of the electric trolleys and the 175th anniversary of the Long Island Rail Road.  The Museum includes old jail cells from the old Town of Babylon Police Department, and an interactive media-table with hundreds of historic photos and oral history videos.  All museum tours are free.

Grand Opening of Shipwreck Cove Water Park at the Bay Shore Marina

Senator Owen H. Johnson joined in the Grand Opening Celebration of Shipwreck Cove, the $1.5 million water park that opened June 26th at the Bay Shore Marina.  Opening festivities included treasure hunts, field day events, arts and crafts, music, fireworks and more!

“It was a pleasure to celebrate the grand opening of Shipwreck Cove!  The Town of Islip has much to offer to families that want to enjoy summer activities closer to home at an affordable price,” Senator Johnson said.

Lindenhurst Fire Department Celebrates 125th Anniversary

Senator Owen H. Johnson presented a Legislative Resolution to the Lindenhurst Fire Department commemorating their 125th Anniversary at the Annual Installation Dinner Dance on May 1, 2010.

“I’m proud to honor these courageous and devoted firefighters who now protect over 30,000 residents in this community,” Senator Johnson said.  “They have won our praise and respect for risking their lives to help others.”

New Train Wash Facility in Babylon!

LIRR President Helena Williams welcomed Senator Owen H. Johnson at a groundbreaking ceremony for LIRR’s new Babylon Train Wash Facility on May 21, 2010. 

The Babylon Train Wash’s design boasts a “green” list of sustainable features, including architectural and structural, HVAC, plumbing, wash equipment and renewable energy.  The project is funded by $25.5 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus money through the Federal Transit Administration of the Department of Transportation.

Prior to the September 11 terrorist attacks on our country, many of the parades down our main streets were thin in terms of marchers and thinner yet in terms of spectators standing at the sidelines and cheering the marchers on. Richard Steven Tibbetts was born on February 17, 1947 at the Rockaway Beach Hospital in Queens, New York, and is the third of five children born to Frank and Mary Tibbetts. After spending his early life in South Ozone Park, Queens, Richard and his family relocated to Lindenhurst, on suburban Long Island, New York. The close-knit nature of the Tibbetts family instilled in Richard the morals and values that would successfully carry him through life’s challenges to become the model citizen he is today.

Corporal Adolph “Ralph” Panetta is a distinguished World War II veteran of the United States Army who, by his merits and dedication, earned three major decorations for his service.Corporal Panetta earned the Silver Star on December 6, 1943 for gallantry when, under heavy fire and disregarding the warnings of his commander, he went to the aid of a wounded comrade, while also helping to hold off the enemy at a critical point in the battle.

Joe J. "Preacher" Ingino

Joseph J. Ingino is serving his second term as President of the Nassau County Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Association (VVA) # 82. He has been a member of the VVA for 22 years, and a member of Chapter 82 for the last 16. In addition to his service as Chapter President for the last two years, he chairs the Chapter’s Agent Orange/Dioxin and Sons and Daughters in Touch Committees. He co-chairs the Constitution and Finance Committees, serves as a New York State Council Delegate, and is coordinator of the Walter Reed Hospital Visits Program.

Arthur M. Cromarty of Lindenhurst served his country with distinction as a Captain in the United States Army during World War II.A graduate of the University of Alabama, CPT Cromarty was trained at Mitchell Field before being deployed to England. When formations were made, he served as lead bombardier — responsible for dropping the first bomb during missions, giving cue to the other bombardiers who would follow.
