Senator Johnson Supports Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently paid a visit to the offices of the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition (BBCC) where he had the chance to view the new displays that the Coalition unveiled to help promote their services. Senator Johnson this year secured $50,000 in funding for the BBCC’s patient services and educational programs, as well as their community outreach efforts. Part of this funding was used to purchase these displays.

Babylon’s Corinne Disomma Named 2007 Woman Of Distinction

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, presented Corinne DiSomma of Babylon --Town of Babylon receiver of Taxes -- with the 2007 New York State Woman of Distinction award at a special ceremony held at the State Legislative Office Building this week. Corinne, a lifelong resident of Babylon, was one of more than 40 women from all across the state who were honored with the prestigious award that recognizes women whose work has enriched the quality of life in their communities.

Senator Johnson Commends The Academy Of St. Joseph On Their 150th Birthday

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon) and State Senator Caesar Trunzo (3rd Senate District) commended the Academy of St. Joseph in Brentwood on reaching their 150th birthday. The private Roman Catholic Academy operates a co-ed elementary and middle school as well as the only all-girls high school in Suffolk County. Their student body is gathered from communities throughout Suffolk County as close as Brentwood and as far away as Hampton Bays.

Senators Johnson And Fushillo Voice Opposition To South Shore Windmill Project

Senator Owen H. Johnson and Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. today expressed opposition to Long Island Power Authority’s (LIPA) proposed windmill farm off the South Shore of Long Island because of skyrocketing costs that potentially could be passed on to the ratepayers. Senator Johnson and Senator Fuschillo, who made the announcement at a news conference at Jones Beach, praised LIPA for seeking alternative energy sources for Long Island, but added that such projects must be more cost effective.

Senator Johnson Acts To Crack Down On Drunk Drivers

Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, announced agreement on legislation he is cosponsoring in the Senate (S.5517A) to crack down on drunk drivers by creating the new charge of aggravated vehicular homicide for drunk drivers who kill others and aggravated vehicular assault for drunk drivers who injure other people.

Senator Johnson Announces Grant For Babylon Public Library

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently announced that the has secured a $50,000 state grant for the Babylon Public Library to upgrade the library’s computer servers, public computers, broadband width and wireless capabilities.

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently bestowed the New York State Senate Liberty Medal -- the highest honor the State Senate of New York bestows upon a citizen -- on Captain Al Cinotti of West Islip. The Senator honored Cinotti for his heroism in saving a man from a burning building last year on Higbie Lane while he was off duty.

Senator Johnson Secures $60,000 Grant For Family Service League

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, announced that he has secured a New York State Legislative Grant in the amount of $60,000 for Family Service League. The grant will go to further the work of the Iovino South Shore Family Center in Bay Shore and Children and Parents Together (CAPT).

"I am proud to support Family Service League," said Senator Johnson. " FSL’s work is critical in helping Long Island’s children and families achieve independence and self-esteem."

Johnson Backs Plan To Double Senior Citizen Property Tax Rebates

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon) joined Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno and his colleagues this week in announcing a plan to double the size of direct property tax rebate checks for senior citizen homeowners. The Senate bill, which was introduced this week would return about $200 million to senior citizens. Funds for the increased senior rebate checks would come from higher-than-projected State revenues realized at end of the 2006-07 state fiscal year.

Senator Johnson Speaks At Bay Shore Summit

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently addressed the community at the annual Bay Shore/Brightwaters Community Summit. Senator Johnson spoke to the community about the additional money he was able to secure for Bay Shore Schools this year’s budget. The budget provided Bay Shore with more than $36 million in total aid -- an increase of more than $1.8 million over last year and $1.4 million than was proposed by Governor Spitzer.

Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently stopped by the United Methodist Church in Babylon where he presented a New York State Senate Citation to Peter Vames of Babylon Village at Vames’ Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony. Vames, a member of Boy Scout Troop 1, was honored for achieving the rank of Eagle -- the highest rank that can be attained in the Boy Scouts of America.
