Senator Johnson Improves Edgewood Preserve

State Capitol, Albany, New York, October 3, 2006 -- State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently presented Peter Scully, Regional Director of the New York State DEC-Region 1, with a state grant in the amount of $350,000 to support the Edgewood Preserve Project. The Senator presented the grant at the First Edgewood Preserve Task Force meeting, which was held at the Deer Park Fire Station.

Senator Johnson Secures Funds For Long Island Civil Air Patrol

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently attended the Francis S. Gabreski Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol’s "Return to the Armory Ceremony," which was held at the Patchogue Armory. While there, the Senator presented the squadron with a check for $50,000, which represents a state grant that he secured for the group to help defray their operational expenses.

Senator Johnson Helps West Babylon Jr. High School Celebrate 50 Years

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee recently presented a New York State Senate Resolution honoring West Babylon Junior High School on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary. Displaying teamwork and unity with its school motto and song "Be All You Can Be," West Babylon Junior High School has been a premier school since opening its doors in September, 1956.

Senator Johnson Visits Improved Copiague Train Station

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, was recently on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly improved Copiague LIRR Train Station. Senator Johnson, together with Assemblyman Sweeney, secured funding to replace some of the staircases at the train station and renovate the exteriors of the station building and platform waiting room. The exterior renovations included the installation of architectural accents over the existing facades of both the station building and platform waiting room exteriors.

Senator Johnson Visits New Courthouse In Lindenhurst

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee was recently on hand for the opening of Suffolk County’s newest courthouse, the Second District Court in Lindenhurst Village, located on East Hoffman Avenue. While there, Senator Johnson had the opportunity to tour the new courthouse with Supervising Judge Madeleine A. Fitzgibbon. Senator Johnson and Judge Fitzgibbon are pictured examining the courthouse’s state-of-the-art security equipment which scans the belongings of all visitors to the courthouse.

Senator Johnson Secures Grant For Fire Island Lighthouse

State Capitol, Albany, New York, August 21, 2006-- State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently presented a check for $400,000 to the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society, Inc., which represents state funding he secured on their behalf as part of this year’s state budget. The funding will help the society in their effort to reconstruct the 1890 Electric Generator Building, which was located adjacent to the Fire Island Lighthouse.

Senator Johnson Announces 21st Annual Beach Cleanup

Babylon, New York, August 18, 2006 -- State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Long Island Marine District, today announced that his annual beach cleanup in conjunction with International Coastal Cleanup Day will be held this year on Saturday, September 16th, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Robert Moses State Park, Field #2. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, September 17th at the same time.

Johnson Bill To Protect Oceans Signed Into Law

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Long Island Marine District, spoke about the importance of protecting our oceans and marine resources at Jones Beach State Park when the Governor came to Long Island to sign the Senator’s legislation creating the New York Oceans and Great Lakes Protection Act. The law creates a new council to coordinate the state’s efforts to protect our oceans and Great Lakes.

Johnson Passes Bill To Avert Erosion, Restore Shoreline On Fire Island

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, announced passage of his legislation to establish and run the Fire Island Beach Erosion Control District to promote shoreline restoration and preservation projects. The cost of the district would be borne entirely by residents of the Fire Island Beach District through a special taxing mechanism. The new district would have no financial impact on mainland homeowners.

State Capitol, Albany, New York, June 8, 2006 -- State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, recently presented Danielle Wilson of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip with a legislative resolution recognizing her achievement of becoming the first Long Island student-athlete to be named to the McDonald’s 2006 All-American Team. Danielle is a senior at St. John’s, averaging about 30 points and 20 rebounds per game.
