SENATE PASSES EARTH DAY BILL PACKAGE

The New York State Senate today passed a package of six bills that celebrate Earth Day by promoting the use of renewable energy, reducing harmful pollutants, and protecting sharks and other vulnerable species.

“New York’s economic future is a green future, and the bills we passed today will help pave the way for employers to address their growing energy needs is an environmentally conscious way and protect our natural resources and wildlife for generations to come,” said Senator Patrick M. Senators Gallivan and Grisanti, Assemblyman Gabryszak Announce Legislation to Separate Canal System From Thruway Authority

Reform Would Save Thruway Authority Millions Annually, Help Prevent Toll Hike

Chairman of the Senate’s Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business Committee, Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R - Elma), joined with Senator Mark Grisanti (R - Buffalo) and Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak (D - Cheektowaga) this afternoon at Canalside, the historical terminus of the Erie Canal, on Buffalo’s waterfront to announce formal legislation to sever the New York State canal system from the New York State Thruway Authority.

The announcement comes as the Thruway Authority is considering a plan to raise tolls on three-axle vehicles by 45 percent.

SENATOR GALLIVAN JOINS AREA FARMERS AT WYOMING COUNTY FAIR

Agriculture is the economic backbone of western New York, and Wyoming County has the second highest output of dairy production in the state. In August, Senator Patrick M. Gallivan, chairman of the Senate's Economic Development Committee and member of the Senate's Agriculture Committee, stopped by the Dairy Barn at the Wyoming County Fair in Pike, NY to visit with area producers.

GALLIVAN CONTINUES TO PRESSURE THRUWAY AUTHORITY TO CUT COSTS RATHER THAN RAISE TOLLS ON TRUCKS

Chairman of the Senate's Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business Committee, Senator Patrick M. Gallivan, formally requested that the New York State Thruway Authority consider cost saving measures before anything as drastic as a 45 percent toll hike on three-axled vehicles is considered.

In the letter to Thruway Authority Chairman, Howard Milstein, Senator Gallivan said that any such toll hike would have a serious impact on the western New York economy, area farms, and consumers.
