Gallivan Calls Governor’s Budget Proposal, “Fiscally Responsible, Economically Necessary”

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R,C,I – Elma) expressed a sense of guarded optimism today, immediately following Governor Andrew Cuomo’s executive proposal for the State’s 2011-12 budget. The initial proposal, unveiled this afternoon in Albany, recommends a total State Budget of $132.9 billion, a 2.7 percent decrease from last year.

“The only way to balance the State’s $10 billion deficit and revitalize its economy is to reduce state spending. The Governor seemingly recognizes this and has proposed to balance the budget without any tax increases or any plans to increase New York’s debt load through borrowing,” said Gallivan, “that is the right place to start budget negotiations.”

Senator Gallivan Announces Passage of Job Creation and Taxpayers Protection Act

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma), joined with Senate colleagues this morning to announce an aggressive fiscal reform package, the Job Creation and Taxpayers Protection Act of 2011.  The package aims to grow private sector jobs while demanding fiscal responsibility from government, primarily through a state spending cap and establishing a two-thirds “super-majority” vote threshold to enact any tax increase.

“For New York State’s working families and small businesses to survive we need to reduce taxes and control state spending. That is the only responsible action, and I am proud that it is the first action the new Senate Majority is taking,” said Gallivan.

Senator Gallivan: “UB 2020 Is Western New York’s Top Priority”

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R,C,I – Elma) joined with the rest of the Western New York Legislative Delegation this morning at the University at Buffalo’s North campus to send a unified message to Governor Cuomo that the implementation of UB 2020, the University’s long term growth and development strategy, is the region’s and the delegation’s principle legislative concern.

Legislation sponsored by Gallivan and four of his Western New York Senate colleagues allowing for the implementation of UB 2020 through public education policy reforms was unveiled at the press conference this morning. STATEMENT FROM SENATOR PAT GALLIVAN ON GOVERNOR CUOMO’S STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS

“After hearing Governor Cuomo’s State of the State Address, I am optimistic that we will be able to work together to implement common sense solutions to fix our broken state government.  For far too long out of control state spending and spiraling taxes have worked to smother Western New York’s economy.  We can no longer sit idly by as families make an exodus from New York State for greener pastures elsewhere.
