State Senator Patty Ritchie visited Watertown’s Knickerbocker Elementary School this week, reading to students as part of a special literacy program made possible through a partnership by the Watertown Family YMCA and the Watertown City School District.
Senator Patty Ritchie, chair of the State Senate's Agriculture Committee, is pictured with New York's 51st Dairy Princess, Casey Porter, of Adams Center, during the annual Dairy Parade, held June 6 in downtown Watertown . The 17-year-old, who grew up on a dairy farm and plans to study agriculture this fall at Cornell, was chosen over 24 other contestants at the Coronation event held in Liverpool in February.
Dairy is the centerpiece of New York's $5.7 billion agriculture industry, and New York currently ranks third in the US in dairy production, with 5427 dairy farms--and young farmers, like Casey, will help lead the indutry's growth into the future, Senator Ritchie said.
I'm getting ready to ride, joining fellow outdoor enthusiasts at the weekend's ATV ride in South Colton (St. Lawrence County). I told riders that 3,000 people have already signed my online petition to allow UTVs in New York -- we are the only state that bans their use.
POTSDAM, NY (11/02/2013)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam celebrated the grand re-opening of its newly renovated Maxcy Hall Ice Arena with a series of events on Saturday, Nov. 2. In addition to the men's and women's home-opening games, SUNY Potsdam inducted its 1995-96 SUNYAC Champion men's ice hockey team in to the Bears Hall of Fame.
Festivities began with the Hall of Fame induction ceremony and brunch in the morning. At 2:30 p.m., a pre-game ceremony took place at center ice, prior to the women's contest against Saint Michael's College. Following the women's game, there was a special postgame reception for players, their families and alumni in Maxcy's Welsh Gymnasium.
I was so pleased to be on hand for the OFA Blue Devils victory in the Class B regional contest tonight. Coach Tom Pinkerton's boys really shined behind stellar pitching by Breton LaRose and a clutch, 9th inning 2-run homer by Andrew Cole!
Now it's off to Binghamton for Saturday's semifinal. Sadly, the news wasn't as great for two other local teams, but I know they played their hearts out. Congrats to all on a great season!
State Senator Patty Ritchie was one of the featured speakers at Saturday's Freedom Rally in Gouverneur where she announced that she has introduced an amendment to the New York State Constitution that would include the right to bear arms. Currently, New York State is one of only six states in the nation that does not include it in its state constitution. The event was emceed by Ogdensburg native and Radio Talk Show Host Melody Burns. Senator Ritchie voted NO on the state's new gun control law out of concerns for sportsmen and protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
