State Senator Patty Ritchie and SUNY Canton President Joseph Kennedy discussed how four universities and colleges in Central and Northern New York are helping to stimulate the local economy and create jobs, the impact of the Governor's budget proposals on higher education and other issues on this edition of the New York State Senate program, "Talk of Our Towns."
SUNY Canton has witnessed phenomenal growth in recent years, adding students and new construction that created hundreds of local jobs.
Senator Patty Ritchie was a guest recently on Ch. 7's morning show with Jeff Cole, and discussed calls for a higher St. Lawrence County sales tax. Some county leaders are proposing raising the sales tax rate, even though they already announced a new busget that doesn't rely ono added revenue. A sales tax increase would cost a typical St. Lawrence County family $140 a year in higher taxes.
Senator Patty Ritchie recently hosted a visit by Candian Sen. Bob Runciman, and announced creation of a bi-nation, bipartisan caucus to address border issues like jobs, the economy, and the recent fishing dispute. Channel 7's Caitlin Cissne reports.
