RITCHIE MEETS WITH BISHOP, CHURCH LEADERS

State Senator Patty Ritchie met with Bishop Terry LaValley of the Diocese of Ogdensburg and other local church leaders recently in Albany to discuss the priorities of the Catholic Church. 

In addition, Bishop LaValley also delivered the invocation at the start of the day’s Senate session.

RITCHIE, CENTRAL NEW YORK LAWMAKERS MEET AT CAPITOL

State Senator Patty Ritchie met recently with Assemblyman Will Barclay and Assemblyman Bob Oaks at the Capitol. The three work closely on issues that impact Oswego County and at the meeting, discussed topics such as job creation, cutting taxes, and creating new opportunities in the region.

RITCHIE ATTENDS BRIER HILL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT’S ANNUAL BULLHEAD FEED

State Senator Patty Ritchie visited with the Brier Hill Volunteer Fire Department at its 77th annual bullhead dinner on Friday.  Begun in 1937 as a community fundraiser, Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY) has honored the event as a living example of what was once a mainstay in rural communities across the state.

SAFETY FIRST MAKES FOR A PERFECT PROM

As the school year winds down, students are gearing up for what is often thought to be one of the highlights of high school—prom.  While prom can be a great time, it’s so important that students know that in order to have fun, they need to make safety a priority.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit with students from Central Square High School before they headed out for the big night. While things have definitely changed since I was in their shoes, one thing has remained the same, and that’s the pressures students face on prom night that put their health and safety at risk.

RITCHIE HONORS “WOMEN OF DISTINCTION”

State Senator Patty Ritchie honored more than two dozen “Women of Distinction” from Central and Northern New York—including advocates, activists, teachers and change-makers—at a special ceremony Thursday at Watertown’s historic Flower Memorial Library.  

“I’m always humbled by the actions and accomplishments of the women I recognize though the Women of Distinction program, and this year was no different” said Senator Ritchie.

RITCHIE TO HONOR MORE THAN TWO DOZEN “WOMEN OF DISTINCTION”

Event to Take Place Thursday at Watertown’s Flower Memorial Library

State Senator Patty Ritchie will honor more than two dozen women who have made a difference, including teachers, activists, advocates and other change-makers, through the New York State Senate’s Women of Distinction program. 

All honorees will be recognized at a special event taking place Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Watertown’s historic Roswell P. Flower Memorial Library. 

The Women of Distinction program honors women’s history in the Empire State by recognizing outstanding leaders and everyday citizens from the present who are making a difference.

RITCHIE HONORS OSWEGO COUNTY'S JANE BACKUS AT CAPITOL CEREMONY

State Senator Patty Ritchie honored Oswego County’s Jane Backus as her 2014 Woman of Distinction from the 48th Senate District recently at a special ceremony at the State Capitol.

A retired English teacher after 25 years, Mrs. Backus taught seniors and sophomores at both Ogdensburg Free Academy and Mexico Academy and Central Schools.  Today, she is an extremely active member of her community, volunteering her time with many organizations that aim to better the Central New York region.

GOING GOLD: RITCHIE CONGRATULATES OLYMPIANS AT CAPITOL

State Senator Patty Ritchie congratulated two medal-winning Olympians this week at the State Capitol for their athleticism during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

Visiting the Capitol were Erin Hamlin of Remsen, a three-time Olympian and the first female American luger to medal at any Winter Olympics and Josephine Pucci of Pearl River, a member of the Silver Medal-winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team.
