Oswego to Share in New $100,000 State Fund to Help Combat Disease Carrying Bugs

Governor Cuomo today signed legislation sponsored by Senator Patty Ritchie, that boosts state payments to counties, including Oswego, to help in the fight against EEE, West Nile Virus and other mosquito-borne diseases.The new law, S.7340, which was sponsored in the Assembly by Syracuse-area Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli, provides up to $100,000 in additional state reimbursement for aerial mosquito control spraying over state land.

Just over a week ago, people across the country waited and watched for Superstorm Sandy to make landfall. Now, left in this storm’s path is devastation unlike anything we have ever seen before. Across our state, millions of New Yorkers are living without the necessities, trying to rebuild homes that were destroyed and businesses that now sit in shambles.

For the east coast, there’s a long road to recovery ahead. Here in the Empire State, it’s tradition to band together in times of crisis. Although we are hundreds of miles away from the disaster area, there are still ways we can pitch in and help our fellow New Yorkers get back on their feet.

Donations Being Collected at Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence County Offices

State Senator Patty Ritchie is hosting a collection drive to help provide relief to the many people still suffering in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

Two weeks after Superstorm Sandy, more than 100,000 customers are still without power.  In total, the storm caused more than $50 billion in damages in the New York region.

OSWEGO COUNTY STUDENTS JOIN CENTRAL, NORTHERN NEW YORKERS TO HELP HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS

Items Collected Through Sen. Ritchie’s Donation Drive

 Fill Van Bound for Hard-Hit Long Island

Students at Michael A. Maroun Elementary School in Phoenix helped to fill a van Monday morning with items collected for victims of Hurricane Sandy; adding to the donations made throughout the past month by Central and Northern New Yorkers taking part in State Senator Patty Ritchie’s drive to help those affected by the storm.

Lisa Balles’ Pre-K class filled more than 25 boxes with canned food, toiletries, blankets and other necessities to be delivered to people on Long Island who are still recovering from October’s devastating storm.

RITCHIE SECURES $75,000 AND OK FOR DREDGING OF SANDY POND CHANNEL

Funding Will Help Boaters, Local Businesses

Just in time for the summer boating season, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $75,000 in state funding to be used for the dredging of the Sandy Pond Channel in Oswego County.

On Thursday, Senator Ritchie met with local leaders, community members, business owners and members of the Sandy Pond Channel Maintenance Association to make the announcement.
