CRITICAL SUPPORT FOR SENIORS INCLUDED IN NEW STATE SPENDING PLAN

Budget Raises Income Eligibility for EPIC program for the First Time Since 2001

State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced the new State Budget includes increased support for seniors struggling to afford life-saving prescription medications.

Included in the new spending plan is an expansion of the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage Program—commonly known as EPIC—which helps seniors supplement their out-of-pocket Medicare Part D drug plan costs. Approximately $4.1 million in increased funding will be used to help expand the program by 10 percent—providing coverage to an additional 25,000 elderly individuals across the state.

RITCHIE ANNOUNCES 2014 SENIOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIRS

New Locations, More Vendors to be Featured

State Senator Patty Ritchie is encouraging seniors in Central and Northern New York to mark their calendars for her annual “Senior Health and Wellness Fairs.” This year’s fairs—which feature new locations for the Oswego and Jefferson County events, as well as more vendors than ever before—will take place in the coming weeks and offer local seniors access to free health checks, flu shots, tips for improving well-being, lunch, entertainment and more.

The first event will take place in Oswego County on September 24th at the Fulton Ice Arena (605 W. Broadway Street) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The fair will feature nearly 50 vendors and free transportation will be provided by Oswego County Opportunities.  A transportation schedule can be found here.  This year’s event will also feature lunch prepared and served by “future chefs” who are currently studying at Oswego County BOCES. Click here for a list of organizations attending the event.

State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding Central New Yorkers she will be hosting her annual “Senior Health and Wellness Fair” Wednesday in Oswego County from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. at the Fulton Ice Arena, located at 605 West Broadway Street next to the Fulton War Memorial. 

The free event will feature health screenings, wellness tips, lunch prepared by “chefs in training” from Oswego County CiTi, entertainment and more.  Flu shots will be provided, and those interested in receiving a shot are reminded to bring their insurance information. REMINDER: RITCHIE’S JEFFERSON COUNTY “SENIOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIR” TO TAKE PLACE WEDNESDAY

Event to Feature New Location, More Organizations Than Ever Before

State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding Northern New Yorkers that her annual Jefferson County Senior Health and Wellness Fair will take place on Wednesday.

This year’s Senior Health and Wellness Fair will be bigger and better than ever before, featuring more than 60 businesses and organizations as well as a brand new location, the Bruce M. Wright Memorial Conference Center, located at 1291 Faichney Drive in Watertown. 

The event—which is being hosted in conjunction with the Jefferson County Office for the Aging—will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and offer free health screenings, wellness tips and more.  Entertainment and lunch—prepared by “chefs in training” from Oswego County Citi will also be provided.  Flu shots will be available and those interested in receiving a shot are reminded to bring their insurance information.

State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding St. Lawrence County residents that her annual Senior Health and Wellness Fair will take place on Wednesday, October 15th in Ogdensburg.

The free event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall, located on the corner of Route 37 and Linden Street.  Highlights include nearly 50 local businesses and organizations offering health checks and wellness tips, a free lunch prepared by “chefs in training” from St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES , entertainment, bus transportation provided by St. Lawrence County NYSARC and more. Flu shots will also be provided and seniors looking to receive a shot are reminded to bring their insurance information with them.

RITCHIE RECOGNIZES “THE STARLIGHTERS” WITH SENIOR VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD

State Senator Patty Ritchie presented members of the St. Lawrence County Band “The Starlighters” with her “Senior Volunteer of the Year Award” Wednesday in recognition of their donating their time to play at community events throughout the north country.

The award was presented at Senator Ritchie’s St. Lawrence County Senior Health and Wellness Fair, which took place at Ogdensburg’s Odd Fellows Hall.  More than 300 people attended the event, which featured nearly 50 organizations offering health checks and wellness tips, a free lunch prepared by culinary students from the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES Northwest Tech Center, entertainment by The Starlighters and more.

“I was pleased to welcome more seniors and organizations than ever before to Wednesday’s Health and Wellness Fair,” said Senator Ritchie.
