Medal of Honor Display Now Featured at Half-Shire Historical Society
State Senator Patty Ritchie honored Central New York veterans at a special reception for her Hometown Heroes Medal of Honor display, which is now being featured at the Half-Shire Historical Society in Richland.
The traveling display—which was created as part of the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln establishing the award—features the more than 45 local individuals who have received our nation’s highest military honor for their service in America’s armed forces.

State Senator Patty Ritchie visited Lisbon Central School Wednesday to collect handmade holiday cards from students in Jane Brown-Flack’s second grade class who took part in the American Red Cross’ ‘Holiday Mail for Heroes’ program.
Senator Ritchie is partnering with Ogdensburg native and radio personality Melody Burns to urge the public to support ‘Holiday Mail for Heroes,’ which helps to deliver tens of thousands of holiday greetings every year to service members at military installations, veterans hospitals and other locations.
So far, nearly 1,000 holiday greetings have been donated from as far away as Missouri, as well as schools and veterans posts in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties.

Central and Northern New Yorkers have donated more than 2,200 holiday cards to State Senator Patty Ritchie’s offices for distribution to service members at military installations, veterans hospitals and other locations around the world through the American Red Cross program “Holiday Mail for Heroes.”
Earlier this holiday season, Senator Ritchie partnered with Ogdensburg native and radio personality Melody Burns to enlist the public’s support for the initiative.
Julian Ross Made Honorary “Sergeant” by 10th Mountain Division Soldiers
State Senator Patty Ritchie, along with members of Fort Drum’s 10th Mountain Division, on Tuesday visited the home of Julian Ross, an Oswego County second grader who has been battling cancer for more than a year.
Utilizing her close ties with Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division, Senator Ritchie arranged the visit after learning of seven year-old Julian’s fascination with all-things military.
