Sportsmen in New York State support an expansion of crossbow hunting, and a law that would require the DEC to offer “gift cards” that could be used to pay sportsmen’s fees and oppose lowering the junior hunting age, according to Senator Ritchie’s 2012 Sportsmen’s Survey.

SENATOR RITCHIE CONGRATULATES JUNIOR BASSMASTERS

State Senator Patty Ritchie recently congratulated the top winners in the Northern New York Junior Bassmasters fishing tournament, held in Ogdensburg. 

The program, sponsored by the Northern New York Bassmasters, introduces young people to fishing and the outdoors.

RITCHIE APPLAUDS GOV’S EFFORTS TO DRAW CANADIAN TOURISTS TO NY

New Plan to Boost Tourism

State Senator Patty Ritchie is applauding Governor Cuomo’s announcement of a number of new initiatives aimed at drawing Canadian tourists to New York State and boosting cross-border commerce.

The efforts were unveiled Wednesday at the Capitol during the Governor’s first-ever New York State Tourism Summit.  As a roundtable participant at the event,  Senator Ritchie spoke about opportunities for expanding and better showcasing tourism in Central and Northern New York.

Specifically, Senator Ritchie —who is a member of the Senate's Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation Committee—spoke about identifying ways to target Canadian consumers, and suggested improving signage to highlight destinations in Central and Northern New York.

RITCHIE SECURES $75,000 AND OK FOR DREDGING OF SANDY POND CHANNEL

Funding Will Help Boaters, Local Businesses

Just in time for the summer boating season, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has secured $75,000 in state funding to be used for the dredging of the Sandy Pond Channel in Oswego County.

On Thursday, Senator Ritchie met with local leaders, community members, business owners and members of the Sandy Pond Channel Maintenance Association to make the announcement.

RITCHIE BILL ALLOWING REGISTRATION OF UTVs PASSES SENATE

Bipartisan Bill Will Boost Tourism, Keep More UTV Riders in NYS

Legislation sponsored by State Senator Patty Ritchie that closes a legal loophole to allow people to use increasingly popular Utility Task Vehicles—commonly known as UTVs— has passed the State Senate. 

The bill, S.1946, increases the acceptable weight limits on ATVs from 1,000 to 1,500 pounds, allowing New Yorkers to register UTVs and generating more state revenue through registrations, as many riders are traveling outside of New York State to register these increasingly popular vehicles.

RITCHIE HELPS SHOWCASE WORLD-CLASS SPORTFISHING AT BASSMASTER ELITE TOURNAMENT

State Senator Patty Ritchie helped wrap up the Bassmaster Elite Tournament on Sunday in Waddington, as the four day fishing extravaganza drew to a close. 

The “Evan Williams Bourbon Showdown at St. Lawrence River,” tournament attracted the country’s top anglers and thousands of fishing enthusiasts to St. Lawrence County, with Idaho native Brandon Palaniuk taking home the weekend’s top prize and earning a spot in the 2013 Bassmaster Classic.
