State Senator Patty Ritchie will offer area seniors tips for living healthy, active lifestyles at her annual St. Lawrence County Senior Health and Wellness Fair, taking place on Wednesday October 23rd at the Ogdensburg Oddfellows Hall.
The free event—which runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.—will feature dozens of local organizations, offering health screenings, giveaways, and flu shots as well as lunch and entertainment, both sponsored by Senator Ritchie. Those looking to receive a flu shot are reminded to bring their Medicare and insurance ID to the event.
Budget Raises Income Eligibility for EPIC program for the First Time Since 2001
State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced the new State Budget includes increased support for seniors struggling to afford life-saving prescription medications.
Included in the new spending plan is an expansion of the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage Program—commonly known as EPIC—which helps seniors supplement their out-of-pocket Medicare Part D drug plan costs. Approximately $4.1 million in increased funding will be used to help expand the program by 10 percent—providing coverage to an additional 25,000 elderly individuals across the state.
State Senator Patty Ritchie is encouraging seniors in Central and Northern New York to mark their calendars for her annual “Senior Health and Wellness Fairs.” This year’s fairs—which feature new locations for the Oswego and Jefferson County events, as well as more vendors than ever before—will take place in the coming weeks and offer local seniors access to free health checks, flu shots, tips for improving well-being, lunch, entertainment and more.
The first event will take place in Oswego County on September 24th at the Fulton Ice Arena (605 W. Broadway Street) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The fair will feature nearly 50 vendors and free transportation will be provided by Oswego County Opportunities. This year’s Senior Health and Wellness Fair will be bigger and better than ever before, featuring more than 60 businesses and organizations as well as a brand new location, the Bruce M. Wright Memorial Conference Center, located at 1291 Faichney Drive in Watertown.
The event—which is being hosted in conjunction with the Jefferson County Office for the Aging—will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and offer free health screenings, wellness tips and more. Entertainment and lunch—prepared by “chefs in training” from Oswego County Citi will also be provided. Flu shots will be available and those interested in receiving a shot are reminded to bring their insurance information.
