ON THE RECORD: SENATOR RITCHIE DISCUSSES IDEAS FOR MANDATE RELIEF

Senator Patty Ritchie was interviewd on WRVO Public Radio on her idea to provide additional mandate relief for local taxpayers by addressing the problem of state prisoners currently being held in local county jails.

Senator Ritchie has written to the Commissioner of Corrections and Community Supervision to ask that he use underfilled state prisons, such as the Watertown Correctional Facility at Dry Hill, to hold state parole violators who are being housed in overstocked county jails in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties.

RITCHIE REMINDS HOLIDAY SHOPPERS OF SALES TAX BREAK

No State Sales Tax on Clothing Purchases of Up to $110

In advance of the holiday shopping season, State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding consumers of the state sales tax break on clothing purchases of up to $110. 

The repeal of the sales tax—which happened last spring—is good news for holiday shoppers, who are expected to spend an average of $750 on holiday purchases this year.  The sales tax break saves a typical family of four nearly $200 annually.

RITCHIE REMINDS PROPERTY OWNERS STAR DEADLINE IS NEAR

New York State School Tax Relief Program Deadline is March 1st

State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding homeowners in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties that the deadline for New York State’s School Tax Relief Program—or STAR—is March 1, 2013.

STAR is a tax relief program that lowers property taxes for owner-occupied primary residences.  There are two types of benefits, Basic STAR and Enhanced STAR.

RITCHIE ANNOUNCES 2013 FAMILY TAX RELIEF ACT

Senate Republican Plan Will Expand Tax Breaks, Restore STAR Rebates

State Senator Patty Ritchie is announcing a package of tax relief and reform measures aimed at providing a major economic boost to New York State’s middle class families.

Announced Monday, the 2013 Family Tax Relief Act would increase tax breaks for the middle class that have not kept pace with inflation, and in some instances, haven’t been adjusted for more than 25 years.  In addition, the act would restore STAR rebates that were eliminated in 2009.
