BILL WOULD REDUCE HOLIDAY GAS TAXES

Urges Assembly To Help Reduce Gasoline Prices

State Senator Patty Ritchie says a bill (S4880B) she supported that was passed by the Senate today will reduce the cost of gasoline by 33 cents a gallon for three holiday weekends this summer.

The savings could take effect as soon as this weekend if the Assembly joins the Senate in passing the bill.

“With Memorial Day almost upon us, New York’s families need relief from high gasoline prices. The American Petroleum Institute reports New Yorkers pay the second highest gasoline taxes in the nation,” Senator Ritchie said. “The bill requires that savings be passed on to consumers.”

SENATE APPROVES RITCHIE ‘UTV’ BILL

Measure Eases Rules On Family Friendly Rec Vehicles

State Senator Patty Ritchie’s bill to make regulations on all terrain vehicles more friendly to families passed the Senate Monday.

The bill, S.3318, increases the acceptable weight limits on ATV's from 1,000 to 1,500 pounds, allowing New Yorkers to register their UTV's. That will generate more state revenue through registrations, as many riders are currently registering the increasingly popular vehicles in other states.

"Upstate New York offers thousands of miles of ATV trails. This legislation will help attract riders to come to New York to experience what we have to offer, expanding our tourism industry and providing more reasons to visit our rural areas," Senator Ritchie said. "If we want to revitalize our economy and help create more jobs in our rural areas, we need to modernize our regulations."

SENATOR RITCHIE HAILS DECISION TO REINSTATE EYE TESTS

Ending requirement would have made NY highways less safe

State Senator Patty Ritchie is praising the Cuomo administration for its reported decision to overturn a DMV rule change that would have ended routine eye tests for New York drivers.

“New York has made tremendous gains in improving highway safety—and saving lives—by focusing on such problems as drunk and distracted driving, but those gains were put at risk by this plan to essentially let motorists play eye doctor and self-certify that their vision was good enough to be on the road,” said Senator Ritchie.
