Espada Announces State Funding for Affordable Housing

BREAKING NEWSEspada Announces State Funding for Two Projects in the Bronx for Construction of $29.3 Million of New Affordable Rental Housing for Senior, Low-Income Families

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FRIDAY, AUGUST 27, 2010State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. today announced that the New York State Division of Housing & Community Renewal (DHCR) has awarded $4.6 million in state funds for the construction of 101 new affordable rental housing units targeted for very-low-to-low-income families and senior citizens for two projects in the Bronx. The state funds will leverage additional federal, city and private resources for total project costs of $29.3 million.

Tuesday, August 3rd is America’s Night Out Against Crime

In an effort to increase public awareness and encourage participation in local anticrime efforts, Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. notes that Tuesday, August 3rd  (between 7 and 10 PM) is National Night Out — “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

Last year, according to the organization's website, involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide held events.

    National Night Out is a celebration and promotion of the tremendous collaboration of our local community organizations, businesses, and precincts in the prevention of violence and crime.     As the New York State Senate Majority Leader, and as a parent and a grandfather with ten grandchildren, I have worked hard to create a Bronx that is free of violence, a community that respects women and protects our most vulnerable populations.
