Sampson, Espada Team Up to Host Immigration Forum in the Bronx Aimed at Addressing Disturbing Anti-Immigrant Sentiment in New York and to Assist Immigrant Populations; Forum Scheduled for Sept. 9 With an alarming rash of bias attacks against immigrants, particularly Hispanics, in the Bronx, Staten Island and Long Island, and a rise in anti-immigrant sentiment across the country and state, State Senate Majority Conference Leader John L. Sampson and Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. announced today that they will host a special Immigration Forum aimed at addressing this “developing crisis.”
Joined by 33rd District Residents, Families, Youth and Clergy, Espada Commemorates 47th Anniversary of Dr. King’s Historic March on Washington Joined by community, clergy and youth groups from the 33rd District, State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. held a “march for peace and unity” on Sunday to commemorate the 47th anniversary of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic March on Washington, where the late civil and human rights icon delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech.
With Census Day (April 1) less than one week away, State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. and a crowd of Bronx clergy, community and business leaders and residents – including families, children and senior citizens – take Census 2010 to the streets, holding a press conference and chanting “Count Me In!” as they mail their Census questionnaires at the Post Office, then fan out into the neighborhood to distribute flyers and explain to borough residents the importance of participating in this year’s Census count.
